A/N;

Soo, if it wasn't obvious, I clearly did not discontinue the last book due to my attendance in college. I was very frankly NOT in college by the time I had slapped a hiatus on the book, I was just too lazy.

But, good for you guys (another, cough, 2 years later, cough), I'm back! And with me, I have brought a good two nother' years of writing under my belt! As well as the ao3 experience, ahaha....

Expect to see some new chapters being flung around here and there, for now, I hope you enjoy the short little prolouge I've procured for you all.

This is quite long, compared to my previous chapter lengths back in 2022. As I said, I have acquired an extra 2 years under my belt, so my definition of lengthy chapters have long changed. Expect this to vary vastly from the original fic. The main plots of each chapter will be kept however extremely modified.

Tanjirou huffed into the sleeve of his haori, the mountains still as unforgiving as they first settled here. Mother had huddled up the three in her room last night, and as the duty of the eldest, he was up bright and early to go and earn a living for his family. He slicked his hair back and tugged his scarf overhead, nudging it closer to his mouth and nose to preserve as much warmth as he could.

"Tanjirou~!" Behind him, two wailing voices became clear. Hanako and Shigeru bumped into the back of Tanjirou, grubbing at his haori and snuggling into him, still cold from jumping out of the warm cove of their blankets. Their mother could be heard sighing from even further behind the three, standing amidst the doorway of their room.

"Now now, children. Tanjirou has to go off and sell some charcoal, you two woke up too late!" She made sure to speak in a quiet tone, as to not awaken Nezuko, who was still deep in her slumber.

"But mooom," Hanako dragged on whiningly, drooping her shoulders down to further the effect. "I wanna go with Tanjirou!"

"So do I!" Shigeru looked past his shoulder and over to their mom, tears threateningly bubbling in his eyes.

Kie resigned a sigh, uncrossing her arms and sauntering to the three with Tanjirou murmuring gentle cusps of reassurance from behind the two. "The trek down the mountains is a dangerous and cold journey, far too much for you two younglings to handle," She crouched down to their height, putting her hands on the warmth of their backs to slowly guide them away from grasping Tanjirou too hard. "Not to fear, Tanjirou is a big, strong boy. And you two need to rest, so you'll grow up to be just like him!" A warm smile lit her face, comforting the two to usher them closer to her arms.

Shigeru wiped the tears from his eyes, a pout forming on his face and his eyebrows furrowed in frustration. "Fiinee.." He had looked away, defeated yet again in the three's ever lasting morning battles.

"That's a good boy, now you too, Hanako," Kie rose to her feet, kneeling slightly down to gently escort the two to their room. She looked behind her shoulder over to Tanjirou who resumed tidying himself up for the journey. 'Just a moment,' she mouthed, making sure the pair beside her didn't hear her.

In the dim of their bedroom, they had disappeared. Tanjirou watched the open door, his mother eventually returning sans the pair of siblings. "A second, dear," Kie slightly raised her eyebrows as she noticed something, going over to Tanjirou and kneeling down. Her sleeves covered the length of her hands as she rubbed the soot off his face.

"Moom, your sleeve!" He had noticed the dirt of his face go onto his mother's beautiful yogi, decorated in a soft floral pattern of magenta.

Kie had only smiled warmly back, not seeming to notice the stain she was creating on her sleeves. The most of the soot had been wiped off, and she pecked kisses all over his forehead and cheeks, the last one being a little boop on the nose.
