If I say I heard violins playing in the background when I first saw him, or that everything suddenly seemed more colourful, or that my heart started beating really fast, that would be an exaggeration. If I say it was like seeing just any other person in that day, or that I didn't even notice him properly, that would be an understatement. In reality, what happened that day was...
It had been a tiring day not just because I had had to walk 5kms and it was just 4pm, but mostly because I had a fight in my class today which I totally hadn't planned but that stupid Rohan seriously needs to learn to shut up. I'm not one to get into fights easily, atleast with people I don't talk much with. Just say it wasn't the best start to a day. Anyways, I was determined to not let my mood get spoiled just 'cause of this. I took a deep breath clutched the milkshake in my hand tightly and walked forward with the intention to not let Rohan spoil my day anymore.
That's when I saw him. Pretty brown eyes as if they were chocolate, almost perfect face shape if that is even a thing, a smile that could heal something that wasn't broken by him, a height that was definitely taller than me(I'm 5'2). He was with a group of other guys and girls and had music playing on a speaker beside them. He seemed to be just vibing along and freestyling but his moves were so clear and fluid as if I was watching water flow. As you could probably tell by now, I became an instant fan. And I would think it went a little more than just fangirling because I legit stopped in my tracks, forgot wherever I was going, whatever I was about to do, and went over to get a closer look. I stood there enjoying the music and slightly vibing along. He looked like he was having a lot of fun, when unexpectedly he turned around while doing a move. Our eyes met, my heart felt like it stopped for a second there, my breath hitched, he was smiling and winked at me and turned around again. I almost dropped the milkshake from my hands as I felt the sudden urge to free my hands and hold my heart.
I wanted to stay for longer but my phone rang and the name on display reminded me what I was supposed to be doing before I got enticed by this guy. Jiya had called to ask when I was going to reach the library to work on our group project. I picked up the call and with a heavy heart walked away from the music to answer her. I looked back one last time trying to remember his face, but coincidentally he was looking this way too. I turned around in a flash embarrassed, and started walking really fast towards the library.
3hours later
I was walking back to my dorm after successfully not having done a single piece of work for the group project. All we did was gossip, eat snacks, and discuss what would happen if we beat the shit out of that annoying Rohan. But we had fun nevertheless so I would call it a successful day still. It was pretty dark now, but the lights from the previous fest were still on so it looked pretty. I was admiring the lights above when I accidentally bumped into someone. "Oh! I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking ahead." I said in a reflex but as I looked properly to see whom I had hit, my brain stopped processing for a second.
"Hey it's you. That milkshake girl from afternoon who looked like she wanted to dance but didn't join in."
I couldn't decide what I should be more shocked over, the fact that he remembered me or the way he described me.
"Yeah, that's me. You noticed me?"
"Of course. I can immediately tell when someone's a dancer."
That comment made me more happy that it should've had.
"That's cool. I'm just a self taught one though. I'm no where near professional. In fact I would call myself a beginner if anything."
"Since when have you been 'self-teaching'?"
"Around three years."
"Then you're good enough. The next time we have a freestyle session, join us."
I felt a string of happiness.
"Sure! I would love to."
"Great. I'm Ved." He held out a hand for me to shake.
"I'm Purvi. Nice to meet you." I reply accepting his handshake.
"Alright then. See you around. B-bye"
I wave back as he leaves without waiting for a reply. I start walking towards my room too while trying to process this interaction that just happened. I had just not only talked to the guy I was admiring a few hours ago from a distance, but also gotten invited to join them in their next dance session like that one. Wow. It was SO a successful day. I giggled to myself as I smiled all the way back.
