Chapter 1: Boredom

The first day of summer. A normal light breeze followed by warm air along with quiet chatter scattered across the streets. It was like any hot girl summer: single and alone. The season wasn't susposed to end in a relationship but for Makayla that wasn't the case.

She couldnt have expected to be introduced to a man, especially not through Roblox.

Makayla awoke more excited than ever. She had finally reached summer break. No finals, no drama, nothing — just a carefree life, at least for the next 2 months.

Makayla sat up slowly having awoken at 12 in the afternoon. Don't judge, summer is all about sleeping in late. Makayla stretched out her long, chocolate colored arms. Although she quickly fell back into her bed knowing there was nothing for her to do expecially not this late in the day. She scrolled on her phone, first sending her streaks then straight to Tik Tok. Putting her phone on do not disturb she decided to change her everyday routine. Instead she opened up the Roblox app.

She hadn't been on it in years. It simply never seemed... fun, the way people made it out to be.

Makayla scrolled on the Discover page, searching for something that peeked her interest. First she tried a horror game and when that got too scary she searched again. Except this time she found a voice chat game titled, Neighbors.

"Might be fun." She thought and clicked play.

Before she connected to a world, she came up with a brilliant idea. Instead of using her normal speaking voice she would use a country accent. I mean she was born and raised in the South it's not like she would be lying. No, she would simply be having fun.

As she logged in, she was brought to someone whose avatar looked like a monkey.

"Heavens to Betsy! Are you a monkay?" Makayla asked confused in her fake country accent.

"What the freak? Are you a bumpkin?" The monkey avatar asked in the same tone but with a horrible accent unlike Makayla's.

As quickly as he replied though, he clicked skip. Makayla rolled her eyes in real life. "What a great start." she thought to herself and quickly the next person arrived.

"Hi there." Makayla greeted, securing her country accent.

The 'neighbor' had the avatar of a woman and was dressed in all pink with the brand JUICY on the torso of the avatar. The character had long sleek black hair that had the smallest wave in it near the ends.

"Oh i like your accent." The girl complimented, her name Rachel as displayed above her avatar.

"Aww thank you girl. I've met so many people on here who said they thought it was annoying or fake." Makayla lied although she did appreciate the compliment on her fake accent.

"Mhm. Well i like it. Where are you from?" Rachel asked as her avatar jumped on the kitchen island and walked back and forth.

Makayla paused for a moment. There was no way that people on here would believe her accent as thick as it was originated from the state of Tennessee. So she decided to add onto her act and lie about where she was from.

"Im from Mississippi."

"So youre from the deep south. Cool." Rachel stated.

"Where are you from?" Makayla asked in response.

"Im from California."

"Oh really? The people I've met from there are all stuck up and rich." Makayla told Rachel even though she had never met a single person from California except for some girl from her Geography class freshman year.
