Wednesday Addams sat at her desk, deeply immersed in a book about the intricacies of mummification. The gothic ambiance of her side of the room was a stark contrast to the vibrant chaos that was Enid's side. Enid Sinclair, her werewolf girlfriend, was pacing back and forth, clutching two neon-pink tickets.
"Wednesday, you *have* to come with me to see the new Barbie movie! It'll be so much fun!" Enid pleaded, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Wednesday didn't even look up. She shook her head, rolled her eyes, and said a single word, "No."
Enid's cheerful demeanor shifted as she placed her hands on her hips and stood in front of Wednesday, blocking her view of the book. "Wednesday Friday Addams, do NOT give me sass. Now get your ass over here and don't make me ask again."
Wednesday arched an eyebrow, surprised at Enid's assertiveness. "Enid, I would rather endure a thousand tortures than subject myself to such frivolous nonsense."
Enid's eyes narrowed. "Give me the book." She snatched it from Wednesday's hands before she could react.
"Enid, what are you doing?" Wednesday asked, a rare note of genuine surprise in her voice.
Enid's expression softened, but her resolve was firm. "Now watch, and I don't want to see any attitude." She pointed to the bed, where the tickets and a small stack of snacks sat ready.
Wednesday glared, her dark eyes flashing with irritation, but she complied. She sat down heavily on the bed, arms crossed over her chest. Enid quickly set up her laptop and queued the movie, sitting down beside Wednesday with a determined look.
As the opening credits rolled, Wednesday's scowl deepened. Enid, however, looked as if she had won a major battle. She leaned against Wednesday, slipping an arm around her waist. "You might find something to like, you know."
Wednesday scoffed but didn't push Enid away. The movie began, a whirlwind of pink and glitter. Wednesday's eyes remained steely, but as the minutes ticked by, she found her gaze wandering to Enid's enraptured face.
Half an hour in, Wednesday shifted slightly. "This is... unbearable," she muttered.
Enid squeezed her waist gently. "Just give it a chance, Weds."
Another fifteen minutes passed, and though Wednesday's face remained impassive, she found herself drawn more to the ridiculousness of the plot and less to her simmering disdain. Enid's laughter was contagious, and despite herself, Wednesday felt her lips twitch once, almost imperceptibly.
By the end of the movie, Enid was practically glowing with happiness. She turned to Wednesday, searching her face for any sign of enjoyment. "So?"
Wednesday sighed, her expression a mix of resignation and reluctant amusement. "It was as dreadful as I anticipated. However, your happiness made it... tolerable."
Enid beamed, hugging Wednesday tightly. "Thank you for watching it with me. It means a lot."
Wednesday allowed herself a small, rare smile. "Next weekend, the cemetery?"
Enid nodded enthusiastically. "Deal!"
As Enid started tidying up, Wednesday retrieved her book. She resumed reading, but her mind kept drifting back to the ridiculous movie and the joy it brought her girlfriend. Maybe, she mused, some sacrifices were worth making for the ones you cared about.
