"Hello?" I raised a brow and leaned my elbows on my knees.
"Yes?" I answered and slowly the commotion faded.
"Yeah, so...who am I speaking with?" I moved the phone from my ear and looked at it like it was possessed.
"Excuse you?!" I asked once I had it back to my ear.
"I just want to know the name of the person who had me up in the hole for two weeks. Since you hung up last time I ended up getting into a fight that landed a few niggas at the nurses station." My mouth went dry at the way his voice dropped to a menacing like whisper.
I cleared my throat a few times before answering.
"Ice." I simply said and it was quite for a moment before I heard some shuffling.
"Ice huh...is that short for something?" I sat up some and trained my eyes on the button that was near my bathroom door.
"It is...but I'm not telling you that...look, I told you the chick you are looking for-" I tried to rush out, but this dude cut me off.
"Yeah I know, but I want to get to know you...you know where I'm at...I can't make a friend?" I scrunched my face up at his question...was he forreal?!
"No!" I said quick as hell and heard him laugh...his laugh, it was deep, masculine and sexy...but it had an undertone that let you know he was not to be fucked with...
"Damn ma...why so harsh-" He asked after his laughter died down.
"I'm hanging up-" I said, but once again he cut me off.
"And I'm going to call you right the fuck back, so stop the shit...how old are you?" He asked and even though he voice was a bit lighter, I knew he wasn't playing with me.
"Don't worry about it...what do you want, I have things to do-" I tried to rush him off the phone, but he did a little chuckle and smacked his lips.
"No you don't, if you did you would have never answered-" I hung up after that and turned the ringer off. I kicked my pants the rest of the way off and started my shower.
I can tell now, this dude was going to be a serious problem.

"Well look who came back around, hey sweetie!" I just got out of my car and the first person I saw was Oliver on the porch. I gave him a smile and waved while looking around for my mother.
"She's in the back yard." He pointed his thumb towards the door. I thanked him and opened the screen door and walked straight back until I got to the kitchen and saw the back door was open.
I walked outside and saw my mother off to the left of the deck under the big patio umbrella just looking out at the little stream that was a little ways away. She had Summer Breeze playing by The Isley Brothers and just looked mad relaxed...something I wish I was right now.
"Mother!" My mother jumped and looked at me like I was crazy.
"The hell!? Where did you come from?" She asked while sitting up straighter and giving me a startled; yet mean look. I ignored her and walked over to the table and placed my hands on my hips.
"We need to talk...thanks to you I have an inmate who keeps calling me-" My mother leaned back in her chair and looked at me like I was crazy.
"Inmate?! A jailbird calling you?" She asked and I squint my eyes at her when I heard a hint of laughter in her voice.
"Are you laughing?" I asked and she finally broke and full out laughed at me.
"Issis calm down, just get a block on your phone." I pulled out a chair that was across from her and raised a brow while sitting down.
"A what?" I asked truly confused. My mother looked at me and rolled her eyes.
"This generation...call up Comcast and tell them you need a block on your phone...it will stop certain calls from coming in; in this case Inmate... 1234" She laughed the digits out and I smacked my lips at her little joke.
"Very funny-" I mumbled.
"You didn't tell him anything about yourself did you?" I gave her an annoyed look and shook my head no.
"Of course not, do I look crazy?" My mother shrugged and picked up her wine glass.
"Did you talk to him more than once?" She asked and I avoided eye contact with her.
"Twice..." I mumbled and I saw out of the corner of my eye she took a sip and sighed.
"Well no...you don't look crazy as hell..." I turned to look at her a bit confused until she finished her sentence.
"Just dumb as fuck." My shoulders dropped and I slouched down in my seat a bit while looking defeated.
"Gee, thanks a lot." She winked at me while raising her glass at me.
"Don't mention it...now go in there and make you a plate of food...I know your ass hungry." I smirked while shaking my head.
"Ok-"
"Don't touch my wine either!" I heard her yell, but she already knew the rest of that bottle was as good as gone!
--
"Sooo...have you heard from ol boy again?" I was at work looking through emails while on the phone with Nicole.
"Girl no, since I got that block on the phone I haven't had much of any calls honestly...I did get my bill though and it was over a hundred because of the collect calls-"
"Bitch how many did you accept?!" I rolled my eyes at her outburst and started replying to an email from my boss.
"A couple, but I didn't know it was that much!" I tried to defend myself.
It's been well over a month and I have settled into a routine with my place, work and no more annoying spam or jail calls. I was living in peace-
"Ms. Evans, John needs your help out on the floor." I looked up from my screen to see one of my employees I supervise, Alex standing in the doorway looking a bit worried...okay maybe I was ALMOST living in peace.
"Nikki let me call you back...I got a feeling some dumb shit is going on in the warehouse." I stood up to look out the big window in my office and sure enough John old crazy ass was talking to himself again.
"Handle your business girlie." Is what she said before we hung up and I mentally prepared myself for the dumb shit.

I got home a little past midnight and was exhausted. I told my girls I would talk to them when I got off, but I wasn't sure it was going to happen tonight.
I kicked my shoes off at the door and dropped my things on the love seat when my phone started to ring. I froze because I swear that thing has not rung all week and with it nearing one in the damn morning, it gave me a bad feeling.
I walked over to the side table and picked it up to see a normal cell number flash across and felt a bit of relief...problem is, it didn't dawn on me that no one I knew should be calling this number...let alone this late.
"Hello?" I answered in a tired tone, but all that went away and I was on full alert at the voice that came from the other end.
"Damn Ice, you got a block on your phone?"
What's good folk?! Miss me???
