"That's good to hear... Perhaps it has something to do with where Ijichi took you yesterday?" she teased, eyeing you playfully before pulling out a cigarette
"Didn't you quit smoking?" you asked as you tried to change the subject, you didn't want to lie to her but even so you found yourself smiling stupidly at her words
"As long as no one knows, it's like I quit..." she mumbled while placing the cigarette between her lips and lighting it
"Hmm... that's not quite how it works though" you mumbled, leaning back in your chair
She exhaled a puff of smoke while looking at the room as if lost in thoughts meanwhile you pulled out your phone to browse social media to distract yourself
Which was cut short as Shoko's soft voice interrupted your thoughts "You know... I've known Satoru since we were teenagers"
"Really?" you replied casually not fully listening to her as you tilted back in your chair, clearly more interested in your phone rather than what she was saying
"Yeah... and I also know how he can sometimes seem like a carefree guy without any hidden motives" she explained while tapping her cigarette on the edge of the empty coffee cup on her desk, repurposing it as an ashtray
"But the truth is he knows what he's doing.... And better than anyone else"
Her seriousness caught your attention which made you straighten up and put your phone in your pocket
"Why are you telling me this?" you asked as your expression showed your confusion and concern
"I just want you to be aware of what you're getting yourself into Y/n, you're not a sorcerer. It's unusual for the school to welcome an average human... let alone allow them to stay with S-grade sorcerers" she said calmly while taking a puff from her cigarette
"Just... remember that okay?" she added a little hesitantly before blowing smoke and crushing the half smoked cigarette into the bottom of the cup
You nodded partially as you tried to process her words before moving your gaze to the window behind her to think for a moment
"Anyway... what are you doing today?" Shoko asked while standing up to open the window and clear the room of the cigarette's smoke
"Well I guess I might need to take the day off to think about what you just said" you joked, looking back at her
She chuckled softly at your remark "How about we go out tonight? It's been a while"
Your eyes brightened at the suggestion as you stood up to join her "Where ?!" you asked eagerly while reaching for her arm as you looked at her like puss in boots
She smiled before shaking off your grasp "I don't know yet... since Satoru is leaving for a mission abroad tomorrow I wanted to ask Yaga, Ijichi and the others to join us but they declined"
The news of Gojo's departure caught you off guard since he hadn't mentioned anything about it to you
"And who are the others?" you asked, a little confused by the information but quickly shrugged it off to not make your ignorance obvious
"I wanted Utahime to join us but she went back to Kyoto... so it's just Nanami" Shoko explained as she headed toward the door while you followed her
You chuckled at the idea that nobody wanted to go out with Satoru and just said "That means it'll only be the three of us since Nanami definitely won't agree to go out with Gojo"
Shoko smirked at your remark before nodding "I know... That's why I told him only Yaga and I would be going"
While exiting the office together, she closed the door behind her as you followed her through the hallway
