Chapter 1

Maverick Knox Sapphirus

I stood behind my mistress, Queen Yelena, a women considered to be the most beautiful in the kingdom. She was a tall women standing at 6 feet, her legs long and toned. She had long curly blood red hair that reached just past her thighs, it never remained still and flowed around her like some halo. Her eyes held the color of the sun and the power of it as well. Her skin tone a light brown complexation, her skin smooth and clear. Her features were strong a sharp jaw line and prominent cheekbones, naturally red tinted full lips, lashes that framed the shape of her eyes perfectly, and a pointed nose.

I've never met a woman as beautiful or powerful as Her Majesty which is why it surprised me when the king chose to replace Queen Yelena with a common woman, a weak one at that.

Her Majesty didn't look surprised when the king broke the news to her it was like she already expected it and if going by the glint of excitement that crossed her eyes when being told it looked like she hoped that would happen.

It made me question what she was thinking. I moved my gaze from the wall and risked a glance at her. She was applying her lipstick, a deep red that looked perfect on her the color red always did look good on Her majesty.

I noticed a small grin was on her lips and it surprised me quite a bit, I have never seen a resemblance of a real smile on her in the 10 years I've served her. She always had an unhappy scowl always looking angry and annoyed at anything and everything. It amplified every time she was in the same room as the king.

"Sapphirus, you're staring. Keep your eyes off me and keep them on the wall, don't break the rules darling." Queen Yelena said firmly, giving me a pointed look.

"I apologize for my insolence Your Majesty, I'll take any punishment you decide to give me." I said, quickly averting my gaze to the wall, my shoulders tensing.

I hear Queen Yelena let out a soft sigh and stood, her steps light and even as she approached me. I readied myself for my punishment but all I got was a hand on my shoulder.

"Sapphirus, you should know by now that I won't lay my hands on you anymore, you are a very dear friend of mine now so loosen up a little." Queen Yelena said, patting my shoulder. Before I could speak Yelena lifted up her hands expectantly.

I let the conversation drop and carefully and respectfully held her hands midair. I made sure to be two steps behind her with a reasonable distance and started to escort her to the throne room.

If you don't know by now, Her Majesty was being dethroned and replaced with a naive common woman named Iris. A woman with straight black hair that reached just in the middle of her back, a petite and curvy build, soft round features, purple doe eyes, long lashes, small pink lips, and a button nose. While Yelena was powerful, gorgeous, and confident.  Iris was naive, cute, and timid she lacked the confidence and power a Queen should have. Which was why I thought the King was making a mistake in choosing her to rule beside him.

We stopped in front of the entrance of the throne room, I saw Yelena take in a deep breath from the corner of my eye before letting it out. I felt her give my hand a light squeeze, telling me she was ready to head in, with a nod to the guards the doors opened.

The room was crowded only the high nobles and the kings personal Knight and butler. The King was obviously seated in his throne and beside his sat Iris, who was cowering into chair. The audacity to sit on a throne that doesn't yet belong to her was baffling. It was a strong sign of disrespect to the current Queen which should have been met with punishment but she wouldn't have been sitting there if the king hadn't aloud it so nothing will be done.

"If you were going to replace me it should have at least been with someone who looked like they had a spine." Queen Yelena said with scoff. In return the girl curled into the throne some more.

Anyone who looked at her knew she would not survive as Queen if she can't even handle comments like the ones Queen Yelena spouted.

"Don't talk about her like that." The king growled and stood up, trying to seem intimidating. To which Queen Yelena laughed at. The king was anything but an intimidating man, everyone knew that but him.

"I'll talk to her any way I want. I still am Queen by law." Yelena said with a raised brow.

"Not for long Yelena." The King said coldly. His Majesty held up his hand gesturing the high priest over. The high priest had the power to dethrone and throne any of the royals he was a much more powerful man than the king. No one knew how he looked he was covered head to toe in white cloth with gold accents even his eyes were covered but in noticeable thinner cloth.

The priest opened his thick book white in color with gold outlines. Queen Yelena held her head high waiting to cut any ties to the crown.

"Hurry on now and take away my burden, I don't want to spend a second longer bearing your name or any connection to you." Queen Yelena said. She startled when His Majesty barked out a loud laugh.

"Do you really think you are free from me?" The King laughed. "Oh, my dear such a stupid woman you are. You still belong to me the only thing changing is the position you hold. From now on you will be my concubine." He said smugly, leaning back on his chair. I felt my jaw clench as anger spread through my every being. I wanted to act on my anger, but I kept still the only thing it will do is bring my death.

"What?" The queen coldly questioned.

"You heard me, Yelena." The King said with a smug grin.

Queen Yelen was just about to go attack the King when the door opened with a loud boom. Everyone turned their heads, including me, to the sound only to find....

(Hello, Please leave any comments or questions in the comment sections and feel free to Point out any mistakes along the story. It would help me improve greatly as an author and please also leave good comments too. I'll appreciate them very much as it will give me courage to keep writing and know that people might actually love what I write.

And since I want to know my readers I would like to ask questions at the end of every chapter. I am going to start off on basic boring questions and then slowly ask more and more questions about yourselves.  I will also work to make the chapters longer if you find them too short.

First Question.

What is your favorite color?)
