CHAPTER 3.

AT LUNCH TIME, we gathered in the cafeteria, the girls all seated at one table.
One of the girls, whose name I couldn't recall, asked: "Does the Latin teacher calls on any of you ?"
"No," I replied.
"He acts like we don't exist", Simone said.
"I think, he's deliberately ignoring us because he doesn't like the idea of girls being in this school."
Michèle nodded her head in agreement.

Annick, who had been silent until then, turned towards her and inquired : "Is it true that you're the dean's niece ?"
Michèle, with a sigh, reluctantly confirmed.
"That's helpful," the pretty blonde stated.

As I was eating, I saw Pichon walking with his tray.
He greeted us with a shy smile before being brutally pushed onto our table by Joseph, thus crushing Annick's plate with his hand.

The canteen was filled with the mocking laughter of the second-year boys, while the poor Pichon was red with shame: "I'm so sorry Annick. You can take my lunch !"
"No Pichon, it's this idiot who should be giving his", Michèle intervened while looking at the person responsible of this mess.
Joseph snickered, "Does the dean's niece have a problem ? What did you tell your uncle ?"
He then tried to make a high pitched voice to mock her "Laubrac is innocent. Descamps is the bad one."

Descamps
I don't like how his last name sounds.

He continued: " 'The dean's niece and the bastard.' A new love story."
What a cad. Doesn't he have some manners ?

"And why don't you tell us what you wrote in that note ?" I asked, not wanting to let him disrespect my classmate more than he already has, and also because I was curious.

His gaze met mine's: "I didn't write anything, it was a drawing."
He turned to his table "I'll show you." He started drawing something by putting ketchup on his mashed potatoes, while his friend were laughing at what he was doing.

Upon finishing, he grasped his plate with both hands, revealing his 'chef d'œuvre' to us: "You were my main source of inspiration." He chuckled.

My cheeks seethed with red as I saw that Joseph  drew a pair of breast. Mine's
I was left speechless. It was so embarrassing.

Thankfully, when she saw that I didn't know what to do, Simone took her sausage in her hands before cutting it in two. "Does this reminds you of anyone ?"
Joseph's smile fell and his expression revealed irritation since now everyone was laughing at him and not at his stupid joke.

I silently thanked Simone for her quick wit, commenting: "You are too nice with him. A smaller one would have been more adequate," loud enough for others to hear.

Indifferent to the surrounding chaos and turmoil that my comment created, I continued eating, while a teacher stepped in to restore order.
Descamps, who was seething with anger, had his jaw clenched and his wrathful gaze fixed on Simone and me.

Bien fait.
This will teach him a lesson.

Simone and I exchanged a triumphant glance, satisfied that our quick thinking had turned the tables on Joseph. The cafeteria gradually regained its composure as the professor's intervention took effect.

"Well done Hélène," Simone laughed.

I won't let a juvenile boy like him make a fool of me again.
