It all started in the year 2050 with a bright star that came falling from the sky. Or at least, that's what everyone thought it was; a bright star crashing down, falling from the night sky, lighting up the pure black. Wolves gathered together to watch its beauty with curiosity, with amazement. No one was afraid, no one showed any signs of fear, but that would soon enough change, for death was upon them. They didn't know it yet, but they would know soon. Very very soon.
The bright star lit up the sky, burning the animals' eyes. It was like a sudden immense flesh, and the grounds started to heat up, the leaves on the trees started to dry and die. The wolves began got panic and turned around to flee but it was already too late, there was no way out.
Before they even realized what was going on, they were dead, they no longer existed in this world, not even as bodies; a meteorite had struck earth and slammed a huge crater into the crust. Every animal and human in that massive crater had been destroyed, as well as the trees, the grass, the rivers, even the mountains; all gone, all that was left was a massive dessert of sand, stone and rock, and utter silence, only death.
For the creatures who hadn't been near enough to the crater to have been killed instantly, they had the worst yet to come. For years the world had been covered in darkness, barely any sunlight could reach the earth.
Trees and grass died, green disappeared. There were still areas in the world where a bit of grass was left, where the animals could still manage to survive, but it wasn't much and many species went extinct or lowered in numbers, all over the world.
But this wasn't the worst thing of all; the dead had been in luck, because they didn't have to deal with the world anymore as it was now. Besides the meteorite crashing into earth a disease began to set foot on the land, as well. Animals grew sick and whenever they got wounded in a fight or got into contact with an infected individual while wounded, they would get sick as well.
It would be a slow and painful death, but eventually all the infected would die. Symptoms of this disease would start with growing tired easily and losing appetite, but it would grow into much worse; becoming confused having headaches all the time, seeing, hearing and smelling things that weren't there, vomiting, drooling and foam coming from the mouth, pupils not adjusting themselves to the light easily and sudden attacks of aggression or bipolar behavior.
Still to this day animals have survived the meteorite and the disease, but who knows how long they will be able to keep on going, to stay alive, as an individual but also as a whole species? Time would tell, especially for these few wolves that were left in this destroyed and forsaken world.
