And just like that he was alone once more. Tommy was a 13 year old boy who after his family had decided that because of his rare multi-coloured eyes, he was cursed and didn't want him corrupting the rest of them. He woke up on a river bank, he got up and started calling out for his family and after a couple of hours of searching no one came up. He was alone.
He started travelling to different villages to collect supplies and maybe spending a night or two but never staying long enough to get attached to anything or anyone. After what seemed like two months of travelling, he gave up on trying to count the days, he found himself in the middle of a forest at night with little to no food and not a village in sight. Suddenly heard strange noises coming from behind him. He turned around to find three dark creatures before he was able to pull his weapon out from his belt, he had gotten it a couple of villages back, and he was jumped by all three of them. He struggled to get out from under when he finally did he tried to stand but it proved difficult. Dark spots started to cover his vision and as he was about to pass out he saw a man on a horse ride in front of him and started to fight them off. He blacked out and the last thing he heard was "You ok kid".
Tommy woke up with a start. He was in an unfamiliar environment which is not unusual for him, it was the fact that he was covered in bandages in what looked like an infirmary. Just then he heard voices at the door. " He was alone and his family could be looking for him," a man's voice said. "Just look at him Phil does he look like he has anyone?" came a woman's voice, it sounded oddly comforting. "Why don't we just ask him?" the man now identified as Phil said. Then he heard the door click open. "Hey mate you up?" Now Tommy was conflicted on whether he should let them know that he was awake or wait till they leave and make a run for it. He chose the former.
He opened his eyes to be met with a blond man in a bucket hat and a woman with strawberry pink hair. They all just stared at each other for what felt like an eternity, Tommy thought it was because of his eyes so he tensed up, before the woman introduced herself "Hello, my name is Nikki". That prompted the man to do the same. He said his name was Phil and that he was sort of chief of the village. Felix hesitated before introducing himself and thanking them for helping him before trying to leave. He shot up out of the bed and spotted his stuff on a table nearby. He put on his shoes and gathered the various items and was about to leave when Nikki stopped him and said that he couldn't leave until his wounds healed up more, Phil agreed with her. They argued and argued but there was something about the pair that made him feel he could trust them. A kind of parental feeling surrounded them and eventually he agreed to stay for another two days. What Tommy didn't know was that decision made it so he stayed for almost three months.
He met with everyone in the village and was on good terms with everyone, even the town drunk, Jonathan. His best friends though were Toby and Mark; they were kids from the local orphanage, their parents had been killed when they were young in a raid by the knights of a nearby kingdom. Nikki and her wife, Cara, had unofficially adopted him. He was now living with them in the house above their bakery. He was enjoying his new life and was grateful for what everyone had done for him. He contributed in any way he could whether it was manning the register at the bakery, helping out on Phil's farm or just doing favours for his fellow villagers.
Tommy looked around, he had left Nikki and Cara in the bakery promising to be back with more supplies for the sugary goods and bread they were making, he spotted Phil and his two sons , Dave and Will, harvesting the crops that would then be delivered to the communal kitchen to be prepared into a feast for the festival. He saw Jack, Sam and George putting up the decorations made by Eren and Amy. He heard laughter and turned to see the kids of the village, Michael, Noah and Nick pulling a wagon full of livestock towards the butcher. They sang as they prepared for what should've been one of the best days of the year but in the near distance, another group was planning something sinister in the shadows.
All of a sudden they heard the hooves of horses hitting the ground hard, galloping towards the village. It was the king's knights, the ones he sent to about sinister business like assassinations. Everyone stopped what they were doing to come out and look, they ushered the small children inside and stood in terror and the horses and knights in their shiny armour. They hoped that they were only coming to ask for information or take their food like the other times during their scattered visits but this time felt different. They knew that the knights would not be as "peaceful" this time. They were coming in fast and hot. Everyone began to scatter, many of the women were crying and some were praying. This would not end well.
They stormed the village setting anything in arms reach on fire. They swung their swords at anything that moved for they had been instructed not to leave any survivors. There was screaming and crying everywhere, blood began to cover the streets, and every building was on fire. Felix had never seen so much bloodshed he was frozen in fear for a couple of seconds before he came to his senses and ran. He ran and ran trying to get to safety. He hid behind a big boulder where he would occasionally hang out with Toby and Mark. He stayed there until there was no more screaming, no more crying, and no sign of life other than the horses neighing.
After the intruders left assuming they had completed their quest for violence, Tommy tried calling out for everyone, anyone hoping that someone other than himself had been spared. He saw what was most likely the burnt and slaughtered remains of the villagers he'd just begun to call his family. When he found nothing he decided it was best he left before he too was swallowed by the flames. He trekked towards the mountains, for what felt like hours, lost in thought. The images of his mangled friends were still fresh in his mind.
When he finally arrived at the mountains he turned and looked back one more time. It was all ablaze. It looked so magnificent from where he stood on the mountain. You could've called it beautiful if it weren't for the circumstances. And just like that he was alone once more.
