Mariana's POV

"I don't want to go to a dinne-"
"Tommy said it's necessary, that you provide social comfort the way he does" Ada reiterated, rolling her eyes
"I really don't have any time for it Ada. I've got enough going on" I said

Like Irene on the warpath
Marjorie getting involved and then denying she is

"Like what?" She asked
"Like... nothing that you need to worry about alright?" I chose to say, she didn't need any more worry on her shoulders over me
She had enough of it over her brothers

"Arthur's cleaning up" she said instead, changing the subject
"Really?" I asked
"Yeah, he's been clean, stayed clean. I sent him on that job, the beating of the man stealing from us" she said
"And?"

"And he didn't even deliver the beating. Isaiah said the man talked him out of it. Telling him how he is his own problem, his own salvation" she said
I scoffed
"A random thief with a mouth on him has changed Arthur Shelby's ways?" I joked

"Seems so" she said
"And Lizzie? How is she?" I asked hesitantly
"She's... well she's bad, as expected" she said
"I should go to see her" I mumbled

"You will, when you go to the house for this dinner" she said
"He's having it at his house?" I asked
"You didn't know? Tommy wants to let them feel... close to him. How much closer can you get than his house?" She shrugged

I don't want to go. I didn't like any of them
If I had it my way, I wouldn't play the long game
Fuck the consequences, I'd put a bullet in all their heads

Laura McKee had killed Polly
My Polly
My mother in a sense
In every sense the word could mean

Jack Nelson killed Charles

And Oswald and Diana. The pair of fucking idiots
They simply delighted in other's discomfort
They thrilled from it.

Other than preparing for a dinner I would rather set fire to than attend... I was also worrying
Because Alfie had not called
Not once today

No body answered the phone at all.
Not even the workers

Alfie's POV

"You can't just leave, you only just got here" Harvey tried, as I loaded our bags onto the carrier
"I need to get home Harv, I can't keep him here, not now. I need to get him back to his mum" I rushed out
"Get out Carter, come on" I urged, he did so, stepping out of the car as Harvey groaned
