"Oh come on y/n! You seriously expect me to let you sleep on the fucking streets?!"
I groaned. "Carolyn, you can't just invite me to live in a house that you technically don't own."
I frowned and glared at my phone screen.
"Says who? Plus, it'll only be temporary."
"What did Elizabeth say?"
Carolyn dramatically rolled her eyes before responding, "she said 'yes. There's more than enough room for one more resident, if you think this person is deserving of our pity' ".
Let's ignore the fact this is a fucking pity parade right now. "You're sure..?"
She nodded her head. A muffled knock could be heard. She turned to face her bedroom door. I saw a small flash of bright orange hair in the corner of the screen.
Unmistakably, that is Dr. Julia Hoffman. The Collinwood therapist. Ofcourse, life must be so horrible living in a mansion that you need a resident therapist! Ha. Like I could afford a therapist,or,as it has turned out, a roof over my head.
"I've got to go, dinner's ready. I'll see you tomorrow?"
"at dawn!" I responded before she hung up.
I love Carolyn, we've known each other for years. I've just struggled to allow people to do stuff for me, I always feel like someday I'll have to pay them back. I feel like a burden. I know Carolyn is only helping me, but this is quite a large scale of kindness.
I place my phone down on the floor beside my bed. My last night living in a crummy apartment, a paper-thin mattress to sleep on. Bed frames and dignity are overrated anyway. I rub my eyes before rolling over onto my side to get some form of sleep.
Maybe I should be thankful I have barely enough belongings to fill even one box.
Ugh.. Who am I kidding? I have a horrible, boring life. I'm unemployed, and technically homeless. My life is truly depressing. Yet I can't afford to see a doctor and get diagnosed. I'm sure if I did, I would have all kinds of things wrong with me...
My eyelids grew heavy. As I drowned in my own pool of self pity, I slowly and reluctantly drifted into unconsciousness.
