You had gotten involved in three incidents, all including crazy people because you showed an ounce of kindness to them. Of course, the authorities dealt with them each time, but you still didn't feel safe.
This time, you were going to be normal. Walking past someone who fell? Ignored. Someone needs help carrying stuff? Ignored. Some handsome transfer? You acted like everyone else and fawned over him.
"Oh em gee! Can I touch your hair?"
"Sit next to me!"
"Kyaa~!! So hot!!!!"
If everyone was saying stuff like that, you had to. You've read enough stories to know what happens if you brush them off or be 'unique'. Your personality was fabricated, a mask to hide from encountering those crazies like in your past.
As someone who had to act nice wherever he went, he knew what acting and masks were like. Everyone at this school was genuine. They loved him, just like all the others in his past. Except for you. Your acting was pretty good, admittedly, but he realized that you waited for others to react first, and would only notice him if others pointed him out, fawned over him, loved him.
So he resolved to make you love him too.
