Fury's quietly started a new initiative. Instead of a catch- and-release with powered people, he wants to form a team, take Earth's mightiest to find out if they're heroes. For it, he's sending agents to investigate such individuals and have them placed on the index for later encounters.
Ronette Baldacci wasn't judging the idea. She had been named Supervisory Special Agent partly because of her uncanny, super-powered knack for good luck and also for her sixth sense for identifying lies. Something purely to keep her busy and appeased ( not that S.H.I.E.L.D. lacks the suspicion necessary to ordain the operation ). It's not necessarily a surprise. Spies will be spies, or however the saying goes. The less people involved the better when it comes to information sharing. No hard feelings.
The organization is doing its best to keep one hand on the wheel, after all. To keep all of this under control. Specially after the last few years after.
But in this line of work, shit happens.
Perhaps Nick has a point; the world craves and most importantly needs individuals with noble intentions— those who serve the public openly, while people like her operate behind closed doors and heroes maintain a spotless image. But it's hard to believe in heroes, all that feel-good hopeful optimistic shit, when they've never been there when world needed them.
But let's rewind a bit, back to the recruiting; Director Fury is sending newly hired agents. Rookies. To deal with this group of annoying personalities who'll be fighting for who has the biggest ego running around the city in spandex suits. Not Ronette, who has made quite a name for herself for the past years. Well, actually, she prefers to think that this job will be handed over to lower-level officials. Anyone.
But when Fury calls her to watch over–and report on–Clint Barton, a human disaster. The only name she starts to care about is Hawkeye; a cocky hunk in purple with the bow and arrow. Part super-hero, part swashbuckler and all showman, the world's greatest marksman and oh how he loves to prove it. On paper, it's simple; watch him, evaluate him, determine whether he's an apt candidate. At least, it doesn't seem like it's going to cause her much trouble.
As hard as it is for her to admit it, Ronette Baldacci is wrong for once in her life.
Cars. Brawls. Explosions. Traps. A hasty marriage. Going undercover. Arrows can't solve everything it seems. Who knew? And when the dust settles, what will the future hold for the pair?
Hopefully the two birds of a feather have a; lucky strike.
