My eyes bolted open, as thunder roared , and lightning bathed my mind with stress and panic. Did I fall asleep? I struggle to sit up in this hospital bed, and crane my neck to get a better view of my surroundings. My left shoulder throbs with pain. Where am I ? Why am I in a hospital room? As thoughts clouded my head, the door screeches open as a lady wearing a pearl white lab coat walks in, with a clipboard in her hand, closing the door gently behind her. She is short, and her hair is dark brown, stopping right at her shoulders. The features on her face are beautifully caked with make-up. She reminds me of someone, but I can't seem to remember who.
"I see that you're awake," she says casually. Before I had a chance to reply, she cuts me off.
"You were in a coma for 2 whole months. Your sister, Franita, has been checking up on you, your mother, and the twins, whenever she gets the time off."
What now? Why is Franny checking on mom? What happened? Why was I in a coma?
"Where is Franny? Who are you, and where's mom and dad?"I questioned her as a wave of panic rushes through me.
"Where's-" That's odd. Why can't I remember any of my siblings names? In fact, how many do I even have?
"I'm your auntie Glenda. Franny's working to support your family, ever since your father passed away." She responded. Hold up. Dad died? Since when? Why can't I remember anything?
"Where's mom, and why can't I remember you, or anything? How many siblings do I have and what are their names?"
"Your mother is in room A12, on level 7. She has been ill for a while now, because she thought you died." As she pauses, a tear streams down her cheek. "You have 4 siblings.
Franita and Lifian are older than you, and the twins, Jalia and Josico, are 10 years old."
"I don't expect you to remember me , because the last time I saw you, was when, you were sucking on your thumb and dozing off in your mother's arms. And the fact that you lost a quarter of your memory since your family survived that tragic plane crash.
Don't worry about it. Whenever someone mentions something that relates to a certain topic, you will instantly gain 2% of your missing memory." Her lips curl into a tiny smile. MOM. That's who she reminds me of. How could I ever forget those big brown eyes?
"For example, I'm the third oldest auntie on your mother's side. You know, the one that lives in Surrey, BC, and has a daughter named-"
"Teresa June Iparis-Cowles. You also have a son named Toby Newton Iparis-Cowles" I finished. I went to grade school with both of them until dad got a job in Florida. Toby was in grade 2 with Lifian, and I was in grade 1 with Teresa. Now I remember auntie Glenda. She was always working at this hospital, when ever I came over to work on a school project with Teresa. Ahh.......Good old times. Wait...what plane crash? Just as I was about to ask her, the door swung open and Franny, stumbled in. As soon as she saw me, she pulled me into a bone-crushing hug. Finally, auntie Glenda managed to pry us apart. Aunt Glenda pulled Franny aside and whispered something to her, so that I couldn't hear. She gave me a concered glance, before softening up and smiled.
"Oh Mar, I missed you soo much! Come on, let's go visit mom, and take a peek at your new school, before picking up Lifian." she beamed. The world is moving so quickly that I somehow forgot yo breath.
"At least it stopped." I pointed out the window. We all bursted out laughing.
