"Hey." I say lamely.

"Carlie..." She whispers, a smile spreading onto her round, sweet face.

"That's me." I say quietly.

"C-can I come in?" She asks hesitantly, searching my face for any sign.

"Sure." I let her in and she sits on the edge of my messy, ruffled bed, patting it awkwardly.

"Why won't you tell me what happened?" She asks softly, taking my hand and squeezing it.

"Because it is none of your business." I snap before blushing.

"Sorry. I'm not in a good mood." She nods,

"You haven't been in a good mood for a long time." I sigh,

"I guess I should tell you what happened. I was on a date with Josh. I kissed him." I admit, voice full of regret.

"What's so bad about that?" Rose asks, seeming quite confused.

"He said he loves me." I explain. Rose's eyebrows knit in confusion,

"I still don't get it." I bite my lip,

"Jake said that to me too. I... I don't even know if I love either of them! Then, Jake sees me kissing Josh and it's like he never wants to see me again!" I throw my hands up in exasperation.

"Oh." She says, shocked.

"Rose, what do I do?" I cry out, lying down on my bed.

"Well, I... would... I would figure out who I truly love, the one I know I could never live without, the one I can trust, the one I can tell anything to, the one I can depend and lean on." She advises. How can an eighteen year old be so smart?I manage a meek smile.

"Thanks, Rose. You're the best." I huge her tightly, she hugs me back, just as tightly. She pulls away and tucks a strand of hair behind my ear.

"Let's get you fixed up." She says with a wide grin.

Half an hour later, I am dressed in a satin purple dress that stops at my knees, along with silver pumps. My hair is curled, making it 6 inches shorter than normal and makeup on point. I look at myself in the mirror.

"Rose..." I breathe.

"Yeah, yeah. Let's just get on with it." She rolls her eyes but grins at me, happiness sparkling in her big brown eyes. We leave the room and are halfway down the hall when I say,

"Where are we even going?" Rose stops abruptly.

"Actually, I don't know." Suddenly I see another figure walking down the hall. As the figure comes closer, I realize it's Jake. My heart stops and the world seems to spin. He's so... beautiful. The light from the windows reflect off his golden hair, blue eyes shining, he's wearing a blue dress shirt with the top two buttons unbuttoned along with black dress pants. I feel a hand on my arm, causing me to go back to reality.

"Carlie. Just ignore him for now." She whispers into my ear.

"Y-yeah." I stammer, eyes fixed on him.

"Let's go." She grabs hold of my arm and starts to pull me away.

"Rose?" Jake's voice rings out from the other end of the hallway.

"Yes?" She replies, ice coating her voice.

"Would you accompany my to the gardens for a walk?" He calls out. He knows I'm here. He wants to hurt me. Tears fill my eyes and I look down as the drip down my cheeks.

"No, thank you." Rose says firmly but coldly.

"This is an order." He suddenly says. I hear a king in him, not a prince but a king. Rose sighs, frustrated,

"Fine." She looks at me with a sad smile.

"Sorry." She whispers. I shake my head.

"It's fine. Go have fun. I'll be at the library." She nods and walks over to Jake. I turn around so I don't have to look at them.

"Library it is." I mutter under my breath to myself. I wander to the library and walk past the shelves, nothing catching my eyes. I sit down at a desk and look out the window. It's a beautiful day. The sun is shining and the sky is blue. I notice a small piece of paper on the ground, I pick it up gingerly. It's a poem. I put it down on the desk. It's not mine I won't . I repeat this mantra in my head silently but it doesn't help. My hand slowly inches toward the piece of paper and I sigh. Maybe I'll just take a small peek. But as I start to read it, I can't stop. The poem is intoxicating, pulling me forward, making me want more.

Heartbreak

There once was a girl,
A part of my life,
She kissed someone else,
It cut me like a knife.

She made me happy,
She gave me pleasure,
She was special,
My one and only treasure.

I loved her,
She didn't return the feeling,
I hoped,
I guess I was only dreaming,

I imagine her with me,
When I close my eyes,
She's never there,
No matter the number of tries.

I want to give her another chance,
I want her to be mine,
I want her to be with me,
With her I would be fine.

My heart is now broken,
Shattered to pieces,
I will always love her,
No matter where she is.

Tears flow from my eyes but I don't care. I know who wrote this poem. I know who it's for.
