JJ MAYBANK used to dread going home to his shithead of a father. He'd accept every given opportunity to bunk at the Chateau with open arms - which wasn't a rare occurrence since his best friend had insisted that it was practically his home now too. And JJ was content with that arrangement.

Or perhaps he now believes that heaven is not a place that people go to when they pass away, no, heaven is a teenage girl. Walking on this very Earth, the same Earth he lives and breathes on. Heaven lives on his doorstep.
Gardening in the most angelic sundresses he's ever seen. Heaven has grass stained knees, and peony lipgloss, and colour changing ribbons of hair. Heaven saves insects trapped in spider-webs, and hums along to the radio while cooking scrambled eggs in the morning for her grandmother.
Heaven tangles beautifully in Jesse James's bedsheets as the early morning sun rises. Heaven traces stars around his bruises, and braids unruly blond hair (much to his dismay, but he'd let heaven do anything she wants at this point). Heaven is his safe haven, warm rays on his shoulders.
Heaven is so many things, but if one thing's for sure, heaven is completely incapable of doing as she's told. And that, ladies and gentleman, is how they ended up on the greatest / most insane treasure hunt of their lives.
