CAPTOR: MYSELF —————————————
I popped the collar of my thick, winter coat as I strode through the courtyard, paying very close attention to my feet so as to not fall and humiliate myself.
These people don't respect me as it is, and just because I'm the lowest ranking Harbinger! The last thing I need is to show how clumsy I am.
I furrow my brow at the thought, but quickly return my gaze to the ground when I nearly slip on a patch of slick ice,
"M..Ms? Is everything alright?" I plop down on a bench, and turn my attention to the servant girl, who is gingerly creeping closer to me.
"Huh? Oh, yes I'm ok." I consider telling her about my latest, most pressing worry, but think better of it. The Tsaritsa might not know about "the incident", and I would like to keep it that way.
"Do you need anything?" She asks with a nervous smile on her face.
I rise from the bench, shoving my hands into my pockets. Of course I forgot my gloves, and now my hands have gone numb from the cold.
"Um...Yes, actually. Do you have any spare gloves?"
She nods quickly, perking up, "Yes Ms! What size glove do you wear?"
I think for a moment, realizing that I have no idea. I pull my right hand out of my pocket; inspecting it. "I honestly don't know." I admit, reaching my hand toward her so she could conclude what size glove I wore.
To my surprise, she flinches and takes a step back when I extend my hand.
I quickly withdrew it. "I-um, can you see what size I am?" I suggest. She must have thought I was going to hit her. I don't blame her, most of the Harbingers treat servants like dirt, no like they're less than dirt.
Her face flushes when she realizes her mistake, "Oh! I'm so sorry Ms...Yes-yes of course."
I extend my hand again, a slight smile on my lips. "It's okay, thank you for helping me."
She nods gratefully. I wonder when she was last thanked for helping someone.
"Ms..I believe you're a size small." She drops my hand. I watch as she pulls off her own gloves, handing them to me.
"Oh, you don't have to give me yours! I can wait 10 minutes for you to get me gloves," I say.
"No,no Ms. I insist! After all, the meeting starts in only 5 minutes."
I pull on the gloves, the mention of the dreaded meeting instantly dampening my mood.
"Oh, yes. Thank you again." I turn away, walking toward the hall where the meeting is supposed to be held. I realize I haven't run into any other Harbingers, are they already all there?! I get a sinking feeling in my stomach and increase my pace.
"Truffaldino?" An imposing voice makes me whip around. It's La Signora, making her way up the building's icy steps.
I sigh, I've never liked her much. She's standoffish, rude, she thinks she's better than everyone, but especially me.
"Hello Signora," I plaster on a fake smile as she approaches me.
"I didn't expect to see you here, Truffaldino," She tucks a lock of her long, blonde hair behind her ear.
"Well it is a Harbinger meeting," I cross my arms as I say this, "And I'm a Harbinger."
She laughs as she saunters past me toward the doors. "Oh silly me, I must have forgotten.." she smirks at me. The servants at the doors part them for her, and she walks through without giving them a glance.
I frown and follow after her, I just don't understand why they all think so little of me. It's probably because I'm a shitty fighter, but I'm one of the Fatui's smartest!
I earned my place here, I assure myself. I walk through the doors into the welcoming warmth of the building, "Thanks," I mumble to the servants.
