Violet Uttara believes she is cursed.

She has reason enough to draw this conclusion: she has watched too many people come undone because of her existence. The tragedy haunts her like a shadow on a bright day, like a moth to a flame. It is drawn to her like Icarus to the sun. It starts young, flames of her misfortune burning everyone around her. Even her parents — she pushes them worlds apart, two young lovers with the universe at their fingertips. (She cannot help it.) Her curse follows her to the Jedi Temple when she is nine and within five years, the galaxy becomes engulfed in a war. The tragedy never does cease.
