The familiar figure that lay beside him was nothing but comfort at this and any moment really, the way he would listen closely to the steady, quiet breathing, the occasional shifting and the sound of the moving pillow that came with it.
Miles felt most at ease when he could hear these sounds, when he knew that comfort was right there next to him.
That very comfort was Alex, and no one else could ever even remotely come close when it came to this sort of feeling, Miles was sure of it.

It was the pattern of it all perhaps that made him feel this at ease, almost like he was in a dream scenario he had painted for himself with a storyline he had chosen to write the way it was played out.

Maybe there was charm in the fact that he actually could not control any of this scenario though, knowing that these moments were rare and therefore deserved much appreciation.

Both of their lives were busy, both of their schedules hectic, so waking up in the same bed like this was, unfortunately, not an every day sort of thing.
Miles knew that there was some beauty in that, still he often found himself wishing more than anything for him and Alex to have a little - or a lot - more time with one another.

"Miles?"
Alex had his back turned to him and seemed to return to consciousness after a late night out and a hangover waiting to be noticed.
Miles hadn't taken too much notice of his own just yet but he was sure he would as soon as he got out of bed.
So maybe he'd just stay, right here, next to his boyfriend for as long as, well, possible.

"Alex?", he finally responded to his call.

"Oh good", Alex said, "you're here."

Miles put his head up on his hand to be able to look over Alex's shoulder and see his face.
His eyes were still closed.

"Why wouldn't I be?"

Alex didn't answer for a minute.
Then he said: "Dunno, I just like to know that you're there. It's better that way."

Miles smiled to himself.
"It's better when I'm here, you mean?"

"It is", Alex drowsily confirmed and Miles watched him slowly open his eyes, still half-lingering over his body in a very uncomfortable position.

Alex turned so that they were face to face, however not considering the fact they'd gotten home at almost four in the morning and with good reason, left the car right somewhere by that bar.
The moment he realised the rather quick and unexpected movement of his whole body, his head in particular, would cause such sharp pain in his forehead was a moment too late already.
With a frown, Alex led a hand to his head and closed his eyes shut again.

Miles put down his arm to lie properly and comfortably next to Alex who was now carefully re-opening his eyes.
They were met by Miles's, commented by a shy smile from Alex.

"Hi", said Miles. "Headache?"
The way he'd said it was quite provocative, more so than Miles had intended for his question to come out.

"Shut up", Alex replied as if he were annoyed but the smile on his face, visible in his eyes just as clearly, gave him away immediately.

"I'm not feeling too well meself, you know. In fact, I've been thinking I might just stay here with you all day.
What do you say?"

"No time", Alex said numbly.

"No time?"

"No time. Guitars to play, lyrics to write, lyrics to cross out, lyrics to re-write."

It was obvious Alex wasn't serious by now, even though he'd had Miles at first.

"Ohh, okay then", Miles joked, "I'll leave you to it. Let me just get out of your way."
He tried to get up and out of bed but was pulled back down by a surprisingly strong hand clutching the back of his shirt.
Falling onto his back, Miles laughed and turned to see Alex in the same position he himself had been in minutes before, uncomfortably lingering over him.

"On second thought", Alex began, "we've got plenty of time on other days for that sort of stuff, don't we Miles?"

Miles certainly thought so but decided to answer not with a word of agreement but with a firm kiss, placing his hands on Alex's neck and pulling him as close as he possibly could.

Alex seemed like that was enough of an answer to him, looking a bit flustered but letting himself sink down into the mattress next to Miles effortlessly once he'd let go of him.

Miles started playing with Alex's hair, which made the latter shut his eyes once again, taking in the sweetness of the moment.

"Does your head still hurt?", Miles asked suddenly.

Alex wasn't sure where exactly his boyfriend was going with that question, thinking that it was rather obvious this kind of headache wouldn't be going anywhere for at least a couple of hours.
"Yeah?" he responded, making the word sound more like another question than a proper answer.

Miles smirked.
He slowly moved his head towards Alex's, placing an innocent kiss on his temple.
"There?" he asked.

Alex smiled that shy smile again that Miles loved so unbearably much.
"Yeah, maybe, it's hard to pinpoint though really, it's all over my head I'd say, now that I'm thinking about it."

Miles chuckled, starting to make his way all over Alex's face with little kisses here and there.
The way he kept scrunching his nose with that same smile on his lips almost made Miles loose his mind. How could a person be this cute?
Defeated by the cuteness, Miles pulled Alex closer yet again so that Alex had his arm stretched out over Miles' belly and his head slightly below his.

"You know", Alex mumbled quietly into Miles' shirt as he was pressed against his collarbone, "hangovers are not so bad with you."

Miles felt the urge to pull Alex closer again before realising that that was pretty much impossible at this point so instead he wrapped his own arms around the man as tightly as possible, knowing that he wouldn't let go for a while. Alex didn't mind.

the end :)
