Prologue

Y/n held onto her parents hands tightly as the three ran with the rest of the people.
Y/n glanced back to see her village burn as soldiers attacked civilians.

Y/n suddenly let out a small yell when she dropped her stuffed animal. "Leave it, sweetheart," M/n (Mother's name) yelled and F/n (Father's name) picked the girl up to keep running.

"No! Please!" They suddenly heard and looked back to see a woman trying to hold onto her son as a soldier tried to get a grip of the young boy who cried in fear, that woman and boy, were family friends.

F/n handed Y/n to M/n. The two looked up at him, "Run, and don't look back" he said and kissed M/n on the lips and Y/n on the forehead.

"Hon?", "Father?" The two spoke. He smiled sadly.
"Everything's gonna be alright," he whispered and ran towards the mother and son as M/n took off with Y/n in her arms.

Y/n who was hugging her mother around the neck looked back to see her father grab a sword from a dead soldier and fought the other man who tried to take the boy.

"Run!" He yelled to the woman who grabbed her son by the hand and the two ran away.

Y/n held onto her mother tighter and her eyes widened and tears threatened to fall, "Father!" She yelled, voice cracking as she watched her father fall to his knees.

M/n gritted her teeth and narrowed her eyes, she fought against herself and continued to run, without glancing back.

"And you want to work here?"

"Yes, your highness. I know my way around a kitchen and cleaning is no issue at all. My daughter is very skilled and an easy learner for her age too, so teaching her won't be a problem,"

"How old are you, girl?"

"E-Eight, sir," the king leaned back in his throne, "I see you got manners... Very well then... Tensei, show this lady and her daughter to the maids,"

"Yes, sir," The knight said and motioned for them to follow him. Y/n held her mother's hand tightly as they followed him.

Tensei glanced back at the girl who looked down. He noticed something was wrong but he didn't mention it.

After a short walk, they arrived and Tensei knocked on the door which followed by it opening to reveal a maid, "Good afternoon, ladies. These two are new maids from this day forward, and I hope you're gonna take good care of them,"

The maid nodded, "Of course, come on in, darlings," she said sweetly. M/n smiled at her and the two walked in.

The maid turned to Tensei and winked as she closed the door. He sighed and walked off, hoping the newbies will be in good hands.

"Alright, ladies, this is... I'm sorry dear, what's your name?"

"Oh, I'm M/n. It's nice to meet you all,"

"Aw, and who's this?" Another maid with black hair asked and crouched down to Y/n's level.
She hid more behind her mother's legs.

"This is my daughter, Y/n... go on, say hi,"

"H-Hi," she said and hid her face. M/n smiled down at her and held a hand on the girl's head.

"She's a bit shy. And... it's been a long week,"

"I'm not a fan of kids but she's adorable," a blond maid said and the another more sand-blond nodded.

"May I ask... your names?" M/n asked and the maid who opened the door before smiled, "Right! I'm Mary, head maid,"

"I'm Cora," the first blond said and the one who's been quiet all this time smiled over at them, "And I'm Dora. We're sisters,"

"I'm Katherine," the black haired woman said and Mary clapped her hands together, "There, now when everyone is introduced, why don't we get you two started and settled down,"

"This is our part of the castle. The kitchen is connected to the common room and this hallway is where are all the bedrooms are. Butlers on this side, Maids to the other," Mary explained as she showed the two around.

The two were now in maid outfits and Y/n were pouting every time she looked down at herself. She didn't like it.

"So, all of us take turn to make and serve. And to help, we got this schedule right over there. We've got some issues some days so we can surely put you somewhere on that list as well. And for you, little girl, for now, it will be to clean around the castle with one of us but we will surely get time to teach you other stuff as well, sounds good?"

Y/n nodded and looked up at her mother who smiled down at her. The girl relaxed... as long as she had her mother, she would be fine.

A week have past and Y/n were dusting the bookshelves as a first task of the second week.

For an 8-year-old, a normal height bookshelf was gigantic... making a castles library massive.

"Be careful up there!" Dona called from the bottom of the ladder as she held it in place.

Y/n were holding onto the ladder for dear life as she dusted the shelf. When she soon proceeded to climb down, the large door opened and she got distracted, causing her to take a wrong step and lose her grip and fall down.

Dona quickly caught the girl who was shaking in her arms of fear.
"Are you alright?" A boy's voice asked and Dona turned to them to see it was the youngest prince, she smiled at him.

This was the very first time for Y/n to meet anyone else other than the king in the royal family. Falling from a ladder... Good first impression...

"Oh, Prince Shoto. Yeah, she's alright, just a bit shaken up" Dona sat the girl down on the couch nearby. "I'll go grab a glass of water for you... I'm sorry to bother you, Young Prince, but do you mind keeping her company till I return?"

"Alright," he said and she left.
Y/n rubbed her eyes and glanced over at the tall ladder, pouting and frowning slightly at it.

Shoto walked over and stood in front of her, he slightly tilted his head, somehow, this girl felt familiar, "I'm sorry... Have we met before?" The girl turned to him, shaking her head, the prince shrugged and smiled, "I'm Shoto, it's nice to meet you," he gave a small bow and Y/n smiled at him, "I-I'm Y/n, it's nice to meet you too... Prince Shoto" she said and silence filled the room yet once again.

Y/n watched as Shoto walked over to grab a book from a shelf and proceeded to walk back and sit beside her. She stared at the black and white pages and tilted her head.

Shoto noticed and looked at her, "Do you not know how to read?" The girl shook her head, a bit shyly and Shoto smiled. "Want me to teach you?" Y/n couldn't help but to smile and Shoto scooted closer to her so the two could look at the book together.

Dona sooner or later got back and as she stood in the doorway. She smiled at the sight of the two kids.

But that smile turned into a smirk when she saw a certain look coming from the young prince as he glanced upon the girl who tried her best reading.

Dona had a feeling... that these two were gonna have something special.
