The white dress Lily and Emily picked out, could not have resembled the dress Emily had seen in so many pictures, more perfectly than if it was the original itself. The young girl smiled, at her new-soon-to-be-mother, Emily had spent many a night wishing for a new mother, to not only love her, but her father as well. Today, all her dreams seemed to be coming true.
Emily's blue dress, glittered through the room as the light hit the sparkles covering the dress, making the girl smile bigger. She had always dreamed about wearing a nice dress, again, but being that she is a little slop, Ashton had never desired his daughter to where anything of such formality.
Ashton couldn't stop smiling, at the sound of his soon-to-be-wife and daughter, getting along so well. Never in a million years could he have imagined himself finding someone to love again, let alone, someone who could love his daughter so much, as he and his former wife had.
The mere idea of spending the rest of his life, with both of them, could bring no greater smile to his face, knowing that the two most loving people he knows in the world, were always going to be there for him.
As the organ began to play, for the guests to start arriving, Ashton looked out to the crowd, seeing all the familiar faces of both his and Lily's friends and family. Them all together laughing and having a good time, made something inside him feel like Emily's mother, where ever she would be, was watching over them. Taking one last look at the crowd, Ashton's eyes landed on a similar face, that he had not seen since her death.
Emily's mother's, mother's eyes watched Ashton fiddle with her suit jacket, as he tried to turn away. She hadn't wanted to see him or her daughter, since Emily was born, and had only seen him, at her funeral, where she preceded to blame him for the death of her daughter. Slowly, the old woman made her way up to the place Ashton stood, unwilling to move.
"Well, this is a sight, I never thought to see, again." The woman said, looking up at the man much taller than herself. "Tricked another girl, into sleeping with you and got her pregnant, as well."
"That isn't what happened with your daughter and I. We loved each other, and just because Emily came, doesn't change anything. Emily doesn't understand, everything that happened, so if you would please leave, so my daughter does not have to experience such a trauma." Ashton tells her, not bothering with who hears their conversation.
"What if I told you, that is the exact reason I am here." The woman mumbled, pulling out an envelope. "When I heard you were getting married, I had decided, that if you were moving on from her memory, well than so was I. Of course, that was when I found this." A small crumbled up let, looking to be a good five years old, came out of her pocket, and was placed into Ashton's hands. "I think, it was meant for you."
Ashton opened the small letter, trying hard not to cry, and began to read.
Dear my loving husband and wonderful daughter,
I know, what you are thinking by reading this, but I tell you, this is not what this is about. I love you both so much, but I have to let you know, that I can not guarantee my safe return.
Ashton, as you know, I chose to be involved in a special program to help kids. The program, however, is not where I said it would be, as you would know by now if you are reading this.
I am so sorry, for lying to you and leaving you alone with Emily.
I shouldn't of lied, and I shouldn't of left the way, I did last night. Emily and you deserve so much better than me. If in fact, I did return, I would have left you both. It was never because of Emily, it was all because of me. I didn't belong in the life we were living, and you knew that Ash.
I love you both more than anything, but, Ashton, no matter what. Promise me you will move on. You will find a girl, that truly makes you happy, and someone who will love our Emily.
Tell Emily, I love her and my mother, that no matter what Emily is the granddaughter, she always wanted. Don't ever forget, I did love you Ashton, it's just that wasn't what was right for either of us. There is a girl out there waiting for you, just be willing to look for her.
Ashton's eyes began to tear, as he finished the letter for a second time. He never in a million years had thought, she would leave him, and yet she did. Everything is a blur, so he never even heard the organ begin to play to wedding march. As Lily came down the aisle, all his thoughts became clear.
Lily was the one, Emily's mother had always known would find Ashton, and even though, she is gone and no matter what would be gone, Ashton couldn't have been happier.
