The video showed an enemy Demoman shooting and blowing up your sentry, screaming as he charged with the eyelander and decapitating your Engineer's head.
"Bloody hell..." Demo says, watching as the camera on the screen zooms in on his face, one of his eyes now glowing green.
You switch to Soldier, cussing a little as you rocket jump back into the battle.
Soldier cheers seeing this. "HOORA SOLDIER! GET BACK IN THERE AND KICK THOSE BLUE ASSES!"
"The bomb-cart has almost reached the final termanis!" A loud groan erupted from the mercenaries, Scout booing as the Administrator's voice called out over the simulated battle, her shrill witch laughter following.
"Shut the fuck up, we know!" One of your friends exclaims.
"Zey even have ze Administrator.... " Ludwig says, trailing off as the fighting on the video continues.
"Even now we can't get away from zat old hag." Spy hissed.
You give a slightly startled shout as the Soldier you were playing as gets sniped by an enemy sniper.
"That helmet's gonna make a nice bowl for ya brains!" The in-game sniper shouted. Mick taps his fingers on his leg, taking off his glasses and placing them in his shirt pocket. "Those things even sound like us."
"Helmet ain't good for shit, I swear." They see your annoyed face as you go back through the character select menu.
"Guys, dis is crazy." Scout said, drawing everyone's attention. "Like why is dis a thing? I mean, I know why. If I'm in the game then I'm sure lots of chicks play the game to see me, but why?"
Spy rolls his eyes as he lights another cigarette, placing it between his lips. He turns to Dell, pointing at the television. "Do you make any sense of zis?"
"No!" Dell looks downright excited as he speaks, shocking Spy. "But it's not too hard for me to wrap my head around. Though I'll admit, my expertise isn't... video games.
Pyro starts clapping as a blue Pyro on a bike rides by on the screen. They point excitedly, tapping Dell on the shoulder.
"Oh? Oh, that looks nice Kate, I see it."
"Enough with the game!" Spy snaps, startling a few of the boys. "We need to focus on getting back home!"
"I could build some type of teleporter!" Engineer stands up. "I'm sure I could whip up something."
"I dunno boys." Tavish says as he settles on the couch. "We'd need a soul stone to get back. And we don't have one."
"So what Tav, what are we supposed to do!?" Scout shouts, still agitated. "Ya want us to wait around for him to show up!? He's gonna hurt... uh... what's her face!"
"IF MERASMUS SHOWS UP, I'LL RIP THAT MAGIC ROCK RIGHT OUTTA HIS TIGHT LITTLE ASS!" Soldier says, cracking his knuckles.
"If Merasmus shows up then we need to keep him away from the lass." Tavish states firmly. "He's still mad and spittin' brimstone, if he comes through and he sees her with us, he won't hesitate to kill her."
The boys are silent for a moment. It's true, As much of an annoyance as Merasmus could be, he was still dangerous. And he was angry. He wouldn't care if an innocent person got killed. Usually he would care, have a bit of self-control, but lately it seems like he's been going down a downward spiral. Tavish clears his throat as he speaks again.
"I suppose that just means we need to keep an eye out. See if anything else comes through."
Spy shakes his head as he opens the window, letting his cigarette smoke waft out. He eyes the dollar store you pointed out. "And do you suggest we all stay here as well? I agree, we do have to make sure zhe woman stays safe, but nine strange men living with her in a small apartment are bound to cause people to ask questions. Perhaps the apartments beside us are available..." His voice trails off as he thinks.
"I don't think that's a good idea." Tavish states, taking his empty plate to the kitchen sink and cleaning it. "The magic brought us here, which means there's a higher chance that anything else from our world could pop up here too if Merasmus tries to send anythin' else. The man could send in some type of monster, or one of those mafia goons he's always tangled up with."
"So we all got to stay in this tiny little apartment just to make sure she don't get killed by some shoddy jackass?" Mick spoke up.
They all look around, fully taking in the situation. Your apartment was clean and it was nice and everything, but it was small. Your bedroom was the only one with a bed in it, and there was no way any of them was going to be able to sleep in there. You'd probably kill them. Your couch is only big enough to let two people sleep on it at once, so there would be a lot less privacy than everyone was used to having...
"OH WHAT'S THE MATTER HIPPIE, YOU'RE AFRAID OF SLEEPING ON THE FLOOR?" Soldier spoke, pointing a finger at the Aussie. "When I was at war overseas I had to sleep on SCORCHING HOT TIN ROOFS and ROCK SOLID ROCK! It wasn't at all comfortable but I was PROUD TO DO IT FOR MY COUNTRY!"
Mick took his hat off with a sigh and popped it down on the coffee table, noticing the sizable stack of papers besides it. His eyes widened as he vaguely recognized what they were, picking one up. "Ey, blokes, look. These are... these are all bills!"
The boys look as he picks up a few of the papers. Hospital bill, another hospital bill, a speeding ticket and so on.
"Why does she have so many?" Scout wonders out loud.
The boys give each other concerned looks. What the hell happened to you before they got here?
Spy peered over Mick's shoulder, cringing at the sheer amount of papers stacked on the table. Surely they can't ALL be bills...
He cringed.
The sounds of your voice shouting and laughing on the television distract the boys for a moment. They look at your face on the screen, seeing if they could see any injuries on your person, anything at all. Even here, they could tell your smile was fake. A deep exhaustion was set in your face.
"Blokes, I don't think she's doing okay." Mick mutters solemnly. The others nod. They had to keep an eye on you.
