chapter sixty-three

Start from the beginning

"This is no use!" Blaise yelled as he threw his notebook across the room.  "I need food." He said as he got up and left the room.

"Hey that's mine." Iris said as she picked the book up.

"For once I have to agree with Zabini." Theo said as he sat up and put his hand out which Amy gladly took. There was no way she was going to turn dinner down when she had been in the dorm for two hours already.

"If I fail it's on you guys." Iris said as she followed after them.

They got down to the Entrance Hall until they saw something that stopped them immediately.

"Is that?" Enzo began.

"The examiners." Amy answered.

Professor Marchbanks was tiny and had a face so lined it looked as though it had been draped in cobwebs.

"Reckon Malfoy will speak to her?" Theo asked teasingly as they carried on walking through the Hall.

"Reckon they won't even spare him a glance." Mattheo said as they sat down at the Slytherin table.

Amy looked around the Hall and it seemed like everyone was in the same position, trying to do some last minute revision but not getting very far.

"You still not spoken to Harry?"

Amy looked back round and saw that Iris sitting opposite her, asking her the question. She sighed before answering. "No reason to."

"I agree." Blaise said as he put his fork down. "I can't think of any good reason to keep a gryffindork around."

"Only if you want to win the Quidditch cup." Enzo replied with a smirk causing the three boys to not look so amused.

"Sensitive subject." Iris said as she placed her hand on Mattheo's shoulder.

"Next year boys." Blaise said for what felt like the millionth time.

After a quiet dinner, the group slowly made its way down to the common room. No one was too eager to go as the sooner they go to sleep, the sooner the hour of the first exam will be upon them. Eventually, the boys had said their goodnights to the girls which mostly included Theo and Mattheo telling them to actually get some sleep.

Amy had no problem with that as she knew no exam was worth loosing any sleep over and she knew that staying up late studying won't do her any good. She couldn't say the same for her roommate as she lied in bed she could hear the constant turning of pages. Eventually, the sound become softer and delicate to her and she fell into a deep sleep.

Amy heard the sounds of charms being recited over and over again and hoped that it was Iris doing last minute revision before going to sleep. But the light in her room said different and she knew she would have to get up.

She opened her eyes and saw Iris pacing around the room, already dressed in her uniform. This didn't send Amy into a panic thinking that she was late as she knew that Iris would be waking up extra early for these next few weeks.

"Anapneo, Evanseco, Ferula...."

"Im going to use Silencio on you one day." Amy said as she made her way to the bathroom to get ready for the day.

The blonde wasn't surprised to see an empty room when she came out. She grabbed her wand from her bedside drawer and headed down the stairs. The common room didn't have a fifth year in sight and was full of youngers. Amy tried not to feel too jealous of the second year students who were planning many after school activities.

She reached the Great Hall and it was the complete opposite of the common room. It was practically just fifth years either eating as much breakfast as they can or hardly anything at all. She found her group in their usual spot where there was mixed emotions.

She took the empty seat next to Theo who greeted her gladly. "What's going on?" She asked, indicating to the rest of her group.

"One of Enzo's pep talks." He whispered back.

"Remember, you know everything and it's just your nerves that are messing with you." Enzo told them calmly.

"Enzo can you shut up, I'm trying to meditate." Blaise tried saying calmly as he closed his eyes.

"You'll just feel worse if you don't eat." Mattheo said softly to Iris as she placed her head on her hands.

"I think we're the only sane ones left." Theo told her.

Once breakfast was over, the fifth-years milled around in the Entrance Hall while the other students went off to lessons; then, at half past nine, they were called forwards class by class to re-enter the Great Hall, which had been rearranged so the four house tables had been removed and replaced instead with many tables for one, all facing the staff-table end of the Hall where Professor McGonagall stood facing them.

Amy silently took a seat at the table behind Goyle when McGonagall said, "you may begin." And turned over an enormous hourglass on the desk beside her.

Amy turned over her paper, her heart thumping hard as she lowered her eyes to the first question:

a) Give the incantation and b) describe the wand movement required to make objects fly.

Amy had a fleeting memory of her very first charm lesson. Smiling slightly, she picked up her quill and began writing.
