" Rise and shine, " yelled Mrs. Purdew as the sun was shining through the window. " Chop chop, " she yelled again as some boys still weren't budging. This is how every day started at Mrs. Purdew's home for boys. They rose at 7:00 sharp and started their long day of chores non stop till 8:00 at night. Michael immediately bolted upright ready to start his boring day.
Of course he was not surprised one bit when he walked into the kitchen and saw porridge waiting for him. After all, that was all the boys were served. Michael actually got used to the bland cuisine very quickly, because if he
complained, he would be sent away to live on the streets.
After every scrap of food was gone, the boys went right to sweeping, dusting, and scrubbing, but in Micael's case making the beds and sorting laundry. Michael actually felt pleased to be working with clothes and linens instead of dust and grime. That was the only thing he felt lucky about.
