I saw an angel

A few months ago, my parents died in a car crash. Some suicidal bloke decided to end his life but he was too scared of going alone. After a couple of bottles of whiskey, he decided to go out for a joyride. And flattened his front on the rear end of my dad's car. Well, that's what the police report said.

In the grief, I took on religion. In the family, I was never really the religious type. I was kind of the black sheep within the household. My parents tried to steer me in God's direction, but once they saw that I was uncomfortable they stopped. I loved that part of them. They accepted me and all the things that I was passionate about, no matter what. Because I don't want anything bad to happen to them while they're in the afterlife, I pray so much to God for him to keep them safe. I know he forgave them for all of their sins because I don't know what I'd do if he didn't.

Since then, I've been living a pretty decent and normal life. I go to church every Sunday, volunteer in our local groups, and pray every time I can. In short, I became a devout Christian. With this newfound faith, I began to lead a happier life.

I'm a preschool teacher. I teach at the local nursery, located near the parish church. One day, one of my students, Reggie, asked me if God would ever leave him. I told him that God loves him with all that he has and that he won't ever leave him. His response sent a wave of ice down the back of my spine.

"Oh... Thanks, Ms. Anne. But the angel told me God had left."

I didn't know why, but what he said made me tear up for a bit. He said those words with so much sadness in his voice.

I rubbed his head and told him that the angel was being silly. God sacrificed his only son to forgive the sins that humanity brought to his world. I reassured him that God would always be there by his side, looking after him and guiding him. His expression didn't change.

"But the angel took me to his house to show me God but he wasn't there."

It sounded sketchy so I thought that there might've been a stranger who took him to a strange place.

"Sweetie, did you get the angel's name?"

"The angel didn't have a name. He said that he didn't need one."

"What did this angel look like?"

"He was gray, had curly hair, had wings that were tucked to his side, and he had human eyes."

That description was so eerie. It even gave me the creeps when I tried to imagine it. Human eyes... Did that mean what he saw didn't look human?

I talked to the priest about this and he said that he'll have some of his friends handle it.

As I was on my way home, my friend and I noticed that one of the angelic statues near the church was gone. I told her about what my student said to me and how it freaked me out.

"Maybe they're going to replace it?"

"Yeah... probably."

When I went home, I took off all my clothes and went straight to the kitchen to microwave myself a snack. After 5 minutes of waiting, I sat on my couch and opened the TV. I popped open a cold one and went straight to watching. I must've been so tired since I was starting to fall asleep watching The Office.

I was battling my drowsiness, but as I blinked one more time a statue appeared in front of me.

A statue of stone with gray features. The details on him were so intricate. All the wrinkles on his cobble clothes were so lifelike. His hands were clasped in a prayer position. The small cracks on his face revealed a dark glow. His eyes were that of a human, spinning around and analyzing the room. His long and curly hair had strands of gold. His blank and melancholic expression enchanted me. He was beautiful.
