Chapter One (Part Two): Blank Space

Start from the beginning

"So do you want to come in?" she said, altering the subject.

"You can even sleep here, so I'll have company." Bella offered.

"Ah..." he uttered, surprised by the sudden invitation.

"No, thanks.I have to go."

"Is that so?" she said.

"We'll meet tomorrow anyway." he said opening the front car door.

"Bye."

"See you." he said as he sat on the driver's seat.

Bella waved her hands as the car rolled away. Bella arrived downtown, seeing Mr. Grant in front of their booth where their painting sare displayed. Bella approached him.

"Where are the artworks? Were they stolen?" he hollered with a terrified look on his face.

"Relax, Mr. Grant." she said, calming his nerves.

"They weren't stolen, they were all sold."

"In a single day? Unbelievable."

"It's true. I guess I was just lucky. Here's your share." she said, offering him money.

"No, thanks. I don't really need it." he refused. "Amazing, you're really talented." he complimented.

"You're exaggerating." Bella bit her lip in flattery. "Can I ask you a favor?" she continued.

"What kind of favor?" he asked sternly.

"Well, I want to introduce someone to you. I met him yesterday. He's also an artist. I think you might kindly help him launch his career."

"I'd love to help, if he's really that great." he said.

"Yes!!! Thank you so much." she yelled so cheerfully. "Let's meet him."

Bella guided Mr. Grant to the coffee shop where she and Vincent agreed to meet. Vincent was looking emptily at the glass window, he was sitting next to it. It wasn't long before he noticed them coming. He stood up and approached them. Bella can't help feeling giddy as their eyes intersected.

"Nice to meet you." Vincent said as he and Mr. Grant shook hands.

Mr. Grant turned to Bella, looking intrigued. Bella quickly stood beside Vincent.

"Bella asked me to help you. You're an artist I heard." Mr. Grant said.

"Yes." Vincent said. "I hope you can help me."

"I have an idea." Mr. Grant said, widening his eyes. "Since Bella's debut was a success," he paused. "I'll gladly help you. I'll give you two a chance to be in my own gallery, also here in L.A." Bella and Vincent high-fived their hands and rejoiced. "But," Mr. Grant interrupted. "I'll get my share this time."

"No problem." Bella assured.

They discussed the details and made some agreements about the event.

"I have to go." Mr. Grant said as they finished.

He waved them goodbye as he left. Bella and Vincent looked at each other.

"What now?" she asked.

"Let's go somewhere." he said.

"Where?"

"You'll find out." Baffled Bella followed him to his car hesitantly.

I guess I'll just have to trust him. They entered the apartment, where Vincent lives.

"So this is where you live." Bella said, as she observed his room. It was very plain- walls painted white.

"I'll show you my works." he suggested. "It's upstairs." She followed him.

They came across the room. Cluttered, and the smell of paint lingered.

"Sorry, I was so into my work my room got this crappy." he said, scratching his forehead. She ignored the mess, as she focused on the paintings he had made.

"I think these are great." she remarked.

"Nothing like yours." he said. Bella laughed at the compliment when she saw the painting she made hung on the other side of the room.

"You really put it here" she said sneeringly.

"What else am I gonna do with it?" he said. "Thanks, for helping me out."

"It's nothing." Vincent showed him more of his pieces.

"You think they'll like my work?" he said.

"Of course. If not, I've got your back. You won't know until they see it." she assured him.

A long pause followed. Gathering up a lot of courage, Vincent finally spit it out.

"You know what," he said. "I think I like you." staring at the painting. Bella was stunned with the sudden confession. She knew she liked him, but can't think of anything to say.

"I think I like you too." she said impulsively, without thinking. He looked at her, with a similar surprised reaction. "I never saw that coming." he said. She cringed with embarrassment snuggling to her blazer.

"I plan to invite you to a date tomorrow" he invited. "I hope you're free." he said, expecting a positive answer. "Sure." she agreed.

"I'll fetch you tomorrow at 3 o'clock. Is that good?" Bella nodded.

"It's getting late now. I should go home." she added.

"You want me to drive you home?" he offered. Bella refused. She told him she'd go home alone, she preferred.

"Bye!" she called from a distance. She walked out of the apartment and called a cab.

"Dress in your best clothes!" he yelled from the apartment's entrance. Bella laughed, as the cab came near.
