"Hmm, I'll hang up the call, and consider my request," Kriya said in a feeble voice and disconnected the conversation.
Naina sat there with a dumbfounded expression, the words "He Slapped Me, and Abused Me, Physically." reverberating in her ears to make her feel like someone was slaughtering her insides. She blinked her eyes harshly, brushing the pad of her thumb on the forehead which began to pain out of foreboding. Sameer stopped twisting the commitment band on her finger when he gazed at her discomfiture form, sailing in pain, and asked her - "Kya hua naina?"
"Tumhe yaad hai february me, my team arranged a wedding for Kriya and Karam?" Naina tried to remind her husband about the broken marriage which took place months ago.
"Umm haa, uske dusre din hum bike ride pe gaye the wahi wali na?" Sameer asked her confusingly, and she nodded her head.
"Kya hua unka?" He questioned.
"They parted ways." Naina elucidated him in a meek tone, and colors drained from his face.
"What? But abhi toh shadi hui thi, and you even told me they were dating each other college time se." Sameer said in astonishment.
"Haa na, they were so happy too, main khud bhi itni khush thi unki shadi me. Sab unke dost unki maturity aur loyalty ki tareef kar rahe the...I don't know shadi ke baad itna sab kaise change ho gaya." Naina spoke with the same kind of brokenness in her tender voice that she experienced while communicating with Kriya.
"That's sad yaar, aisa nahi hona chahiye tha," Sameer said woefully.
"Wahi toh, aur aise ho kaise gaya? It's unbelievable, itne saal date karne ke time sab kuch normal tha aur shadi ke thode mahinon me hi divorce tak ho gaya?" Naina articulated her amazement with perplexed eyes while squeezing her lips with a brooding expression.
"Aaj kal na logon me bilkul patience nahi raha hai, choti choti baaton pe lifetime ka decision le lete hai. Nobody is ready to sacrifice and compromise, sabko apna ego pyara hai." Sameer ranted about the youngsters who had transformed into heartless fellows and aren't ready to make any sort of adjustments from their end.
"Seriously, don't know where this world is leading to. Sab kuch bikhar raha hai I feel, aur agar aise hi chalta raha toh logo ka pyar par se bharosa uthne me time nahi lagega. Waise bhi aaj kal bhi kitne saare true love me believe nahi karte hai." Naina said with a doleful expression while exhaling a slow breath, praying for all the lovers in this world to be together under any rough circumstances because she experienced the trauma and grief of staying away from her significant other for days. It broke her in all the possible ways, made her lifeless, and provided her zero comfort.
"I agree, main bhi aisa hi hua karta tha but bappa ne mujhe tumse mila diya aur ab mujhe pyaar ke alawa kuch nazar hi nahi aata hai. For me, love is the most beautiful thing to do, aur usse bhi khubsurat hai aapke partner ka aapke saath rehna for the lifetime." Sameer clasped her hand with a simple-sweet smile on his face and Naina bobbed her head, stroking the sharpened lines of his murky stubble with her thumb.
"Jab kabhi main yeh sab news sunti hoon na, mera mind bahut disturbed feel karta hai. I don't know why, jab humara breakup hua tha main bata nahi sakti how difficult that period was for me, for you too. I know...Divorce ka toh naam sunke hi mujhe andar se anxiety hone lagti hai." Naina said in a shivering tone while running her palm on his tresses, and suddenly Sameer got up, grasping her perspiring hand meticulously. He looked intently and solemnly into the depth of her moist orbs to see hollowness residing in them. He fondly put back a soft wisp of hair, and confessed - "Waada hain tumse mera, na kabhi yeh haath choduga...aur na hi tumhara saath."
