Kyla's eyes flickered down to her phone for the hundredth time that hour, finding she had another text from her mother. She flipped her phone over, an irritated huff leaving her lips, as she tried to focus back on the movie on the TV screen. She was sprawled out on the green couch in her shared apartment, watching the latest Halloween movie with one of her flatmates. Not that they seemed very interested in what was on the screen either.

"Who are you texting?" Kyla inquired, noticing the grin on the younger girl's face.

"Just a friend" She shrugged, her cheeks flushing, causing Kyla to raise an eyebrow.

Tara Carpenter.

The twenty-year-old had been through more than most people went in a lifetime. Kyla could tell Tara so desperately wanted to have a normal life, worrying about boys and college...but something told her that wouldn't be the case. She loved her friend, but she really did let people into her life too easily. She had bought Kyla's lie that she had never heard of the Woodsboro murders without a second thought. In truth, she had been watching the Carpenter sisters ever since they moved to New York.

In a totally not creepy way.

Well, not in a Ghostface way, at least. She needed to get close to the girls, and how better than by moving in with them? Still, she had never expected to become so close to them. It made the real reason she had moved to New York even harder.

But she needed to find Sidney Prescott.

And the sisters were the best way to her, whether they realised that or not. She knew how betrayed they would be if they ever found out the truth, but surely they would understand? Family came first, didn't it?

"A friend who makes you blush? Does Tara have a crush?" Kyla teased, chucking some popcorn toward Tara, who batted the snack away with her hands.

"At least I have friends" Tara retorted, as Kyla clutched at her chest, with a mock look of hurt.

"You wound me" Kyla scoffed, ears perking up when she heard the door to their apartment open.

She looked over to the top of the couch to see Sam walking toward them, dropping her bag onto the floor, and running a hand over her face. She looked tired. Kyla suspected she had been to her therapist again. She always had the same expression after their sessions.

"Your sister's bullying me, by the way" Kyla announced, as Sam forced a smile onto her lips, that didn't quite reach her eyes.

"She only bullies' people she likes" Sam shrugged, walking around the side of the couch.

Kyla drew her legs out of the way, as Sam came to sit beside her on the couch, grabbing a handful of popcorn in her hands. Kyla caught herself staring at the older Carpenter for a few seconds before she forced her eyes back to the TV screen.

"You guys are seriously watching a slasher film right now?" Sam mumbled, with a shake of her head.

"It is Halloween, Sam" Tara pointed out, before giving Kyla a look, ushering for her to say something.

"...Speaking of which...there's a frat party this weekend. I'm going. Mindy's going. Chad's going...and Tara—" Kyla began, but Sam was quick to cut her off.

"Will be staying at home" Sam insisted, causing her sister to send her a glare.

"And how exactly do you think you're going to stop me?" Tara questioned.

"I'll knock you out and lock you in the apartment" Sam huffed, clearly having thought of that beforehand.

"A little dramatic, don't you think?" Kyla murmured.
