a violin was propped on his shoulder, the bow sliding up and down on the strings, causing a beautiful sound to erupt from the instrument. his eyes were closed, for he was so very focused on the song he was playing. it was familiar, but how so?
i stepped into the room, which he must've heard since he opened his eyes and stopped playing the gorgeous melody. he looked over, meeting my gaze.
"can i help you?" he asked, not at all sounding annoyed. just curious.
"i-i didn't mean to interrupt, i just.." i started, "...that melody you were playing was phenomenal. do you mind telling me what it was?"
he stared for a moment, almost like he didn't know the answer.
he smiled.
"why, thank you. but i wasn't playing anything specific. i was just playing something i thought sounded nice."
i nodded and stood a bit straighter.
"why did you call me here again?" i asked.
"oh, i just wanted to talk to you." he said, putting the violin down and looked towards me once more.
"about what?"
"perhaps you could retrieve something for me? it is located in the woods, it is a journal. i'll pay you in return, just don't look inside of the journal. i will know if you did, and you won't get paid. you said you were in need of money, so i have your solution. there's something in those woods i am far to afraid to come in contact with. be careful."
i nodded and headed towards the woods in which he spoke of. what was in there worth being afraid of? and a man like him surely wouldn't be afraid of any ordinary animal in the woods, so maybe it wasn't an animal. perhaps it is not human either.
