➸ CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Start from the beginning

"All you have to do is wipe off the blood and edges of the bite marks." Chishiya talked low and slow, making the world go quiet so everyone could listen. "It's easy. Don't worry about me, just get it done."

You hesitated a bit before gently pressing the gauze pad on his skin, starting nowhere near the actual cut and just cleaning up the dried blood on the outside. Once you finished that, you had to move closer in, carefully grazing the edges into his sensitive, torn up skin layer. He didn't make any noise, just pressed his lips together tightly as he watched your every move with the burning liquid.

It took you quite a bit of time, it felt like you were alone with just the gauze pad and the bite marks, anything outside of that was blurred. Though, you finished up and took one final look before setting the used cotton on the tray next to the hospital bed. "Alright," You cleared your throat, "What's next?"

"The fun part," Chishiya lolled his head to the side, "Suturing the wound." You groaned in frustration, not at Chishiya but at yourself. Chishiya has to go through all of this trouble just because you bit him, not to mention he had to tackle you to the ground earlier so you wouldn't be shot in the street. You knew that all of this was your fault, and there's nothing Chishiya can say otherwise. With that being said, you have to make sure you do your best work on his hand to at least make up for some of the damage you caused.

"Sounds easy," You sarcastically boasted, "What do I need?"

"Mmh, in an ideal world, you'd need a needle driver, scissors, tissue forceps, needle and thread, anesthesia cream, maybe a professional doctor..." The more Chishiya read out the list from the top of his head, the more you wanted to crumble up in the corner and hide. There's so much for you to do and you have to do it right the first time or it'll mess up everything. He seemed to notice your panic coming back, and cleared his throat. "You're doing good so far, Y/N, it's easier than it sounds." Knowing the chances of that being true are slim to none, you nodded and turned to the dozens of drawers to find the supplies.

After a lot of time searching, you could only find a needle and thread, and still needed more than half of the supplies! You had already searched every drawer in the room, so you started at the first drawer and decided to double-check them all. "Y/N," Chishiya sighed, "You already checked that."

"I know, I know," You were out of breath, back cramping by how long you've been bent down looking through the low cabinets. Knowing this was a waste of time, you slammed the cabinets closed, aggravated at the results of this messed up scavenger hunt. "Fuck," You cursed underneath your breath, "I'll just go search the other rooms. I mean, there's got to be some of it lying around in the building, right?"

"We already searched the entire first and second floor." Chishiya reminded you, even though you already had your hand on the doorknob out of the room.

You turned to him, "Then I'll just have to go on the third floor."

With that being said, you swung open the door and ran out of there, heading straight towards the stairs. You were out of breath as soon as you reached the top, but thankfully there was a door only a few feet away. You twisted the knob and pushed the door open, but can't even walk more than two steps into the place after what your eyes are met with.

A bouquet of wilted flowers sat beside the window, it was hard to imagine their original form when they were fresh, but you already remembered. Waking up to an assortment of soft pink tulips, peonies, purple irises and delphiniums was a memory that has and forever will stay with you. This was your hospital room, this is where you grew up in for five whole years.

You let go of the door and let it swing shut behind you, more focused on the little things in the room that held big sentiments. The empty tray used to hold your daily meals, the stack of books beside your hospital bed, and the colored picture pinned to the wall made by a kid who was kept in the room beside yours. You smiled at the nostalgia, as it's not a feeling that passes by you frequently like everyone else. Having something, or even someone, that felt familiar is hard to discover, especially in a new world like this. Although you hated sitting in the same room for so long, you'd love to sit in here for another five years before participating in another deadly game.

Oh, right, you need to focus on what you came here for; supplies to help Chishiya. As much as you'd love to stay in here for the rest of the day, you have someone waiting for you downstairs, and you've already let them down too many times to leave them hanging. So, you walked over to the cabinets on the other side of the room and started digging through them.

You made sure to search thoroughly the first time around so you wouldn't have to double check, and fortunately you found scissors and a needle driver! You couldn't find anesthesia or tissue forceps, but your odds are looking much better now.

Before you headed out the door, your eyes naturally landed on the forgotten flowers. Being drawn to it, your legs carried themselves over to it, like they had a mind of their own. You brushed your hand over them, they obviously felt very crusty and the colors had been washed out due to how much time has passed... but you can still remember what it felt like to touch them back then.

You turned the vase around to get another perspective on the bouquet, when you saw something else wrapped around the vase. It was a white card, dangling by a small thread loosely tied on the object. You grabbed it, flipping it over to see it's contents.

I wanted to share some good news with you, but found you sleeping. I saw you finished your book, I'll bring you a new one once I'm back from surgery, if you're not still sleeping. Glad to see you finally letting yourself rest.

Happy Birthday.
- Shun Shi
