Your eyes met those of a large terrifying beast. This beast indeed resembled a dog. It towered over you all and stared down on you with piercing, and cold eyes. He stared at each of you, as if analyzing, scanning.
"You came off as somesome good with animals Gon. Tell me, would you be able to tame him?" Mr. Zebro asks, referring to Mike.
"No" Gon says without question.
Mr. Zebro nods in understanding, "Mike's been trained so that he follows the orders of his masters, to guard the gates no matter what. Those commands have been drilled into his brain, he thinks of nothing else. He is basically a robot, following orders and scanning, remembering all who have entered through the testing gate, as he is doing to you all now."
You all remain frozen, not daring to move or make a sound in the presence of Mike. Mr. Zebro slowly guides us out of the estate and into his guard booth. "So what do you plan to do now?"
"We're going to train until we're able to open those gates." You say, "Please tell Killua that we'll be back soon."
Mr. Zebro sighs, "I'll train you."
"Why the sudden change of heart?" Kurapika asks.
"Because you aren't going to give up anyways, so at least if you train with me, I'll know for sure that you'd be able to get back Killua."
...
For 20 days, you trained with Mr. Zebro. He had you to wear these vests all day, except when you slept, that were 50kg. You had to live in the caretakers estate with him and another caretaker and there everything weighed over 20kg. Each day, you'd spend it rigorously training until our bodies ached, only to wake up to do something even harder the next day. Finally, once the 20 days were up, you were able to open the first gate together. You thanked Mr. Zebro for all of his help and headed up the mountain.
Just thinking about how hard it was for you all just to be worthy of entering the estate, by opening the gate made you anxious for what might lay ahead. You recalled a story you heard about what happened further up the mountain a few years ago. A huge group of men, fully equipped and fit, most of which were masters in their own respective areas of martial arts, entered the Zoldyck grounds. Apparently, they didn't even make it to the main Zoldyck mansion before being beaten to a pulp by a mere butler's apprentice. The apprentice was said to have been a young child, yet was able to take down the whole army without breaking a sweat. Thinking about what sort of demonic child could be capable of such a feat, sent a chill down your spine.
"Y/n?" You hear someone call your name shaking your thoughts, "Are you alright?" The person was Kurapika and he stops in front of you to look into your eyes. His eyes were filled with such concern that you couldn't help but crack a smile. "You seem shaken are you alright?" He asks.
"Ya I'm fine..." You say you smile fading slightly, "I'm just worried... I've heard stories about this place and I'm worried that something might happen..."
Kurapika bends down lower to meet your level and look right into your eyes, "I've heard stories as well, but we made it through the hunter exam and got through the testing gate. We're going to be fine, we'll save Killua."
"But, Kurapika we don't even know how long we could spend here trying to save Killua. Are you sure you can take this time to help us when you have your ancestors eyes to find?" You ask.
"Killua's my friend as well, I won't just leave you all alone in trying to save him if I know that I can help. I won't abandon you." He says.
You could tell he meant that to be applied to more than just the situation at hand and you blushed slightly, "Thank you." You say smiling at him, "I feel a lot better now." You pull him into a tight hug and hold it a little longer than normal. You didn't let go until to felt completely ready to keep going, and Kurapika didn't seem to mind. You lean back to be greeted by Kurapika's cherry red face and you immediately let go.
"I-I'm sorry, I forgot how uncomfortable you get with close physical contact."
"I am..." He says, but reaches for your hand to hold, "But I don't mind if it's you." You look up to be greeted by his stunning smile and you silently swoon in your mind. Your heart was already racing from your anxiety of being on the property of a family of assassins, but now it was racing for a whole different reason. You both walked further up the mountain, still holding Kurapika's hand. You heart continued to race and your stomach was doing flips, but you could ignore the nagging feeling in your mind that didn't let you completely enjoy this moment. You watched as the silhouettes of Leorio and Gon disappear further up the mountain.
As the two of you approached Leorio and Gon, who were standing in front of a gate, you immediately let go of each other's hands so that the others wouldn't notice.
"What's up guys?" You ask. Leorio and Gon turn around to look at the two of you.
"The apprentice butler." Leorio says nodding over his shoulder to the person behind him.
Behind their shoulders you see a familiar looking girl. It'd been a while but you could never forget your first friend's face.
"CANARY?!"
