"And lastly," everyone looked back at you, "I am the chief's daughter asshole, you don't speak to me like that" you crossed your arms over your chest.
"No you aren't! You're adopted. You're just lucky your real parents died and the chief took you in" the boy said.
-
"How come you have five fingers and Tsiryea and Ao'nung don't?" he asked carefully, just as you did a few moments ago.
You open your mouth for a moment, wanting to say something but closing it after. Taking a deep breath you say, "They aren't my real siblings."
"When I was younger, like 7 or something," You shrug your shoulders, trying to seem chill about the subject that is still taking a toll in your day to day life, "My parents went missing one day and I never saw them again." Thinking about your parents now, you realize you haven't heard any of their voices in the back of your mind lately.
Maybe it's because of something new... someone new.
"Now I figured that my mother was a sky person and my father was a Na'vi, but that's only my guess." You end your explanation while looking down at your hands.
"Kiri was also adopted. I know how you feel about this topic, it must be really hard to talk about it." He reached his hand out and placed it gently on top of yours. "Thank you for trusting me with it."
You look at his hand compared to yours, it almost coverd it completly. A now familiar warm feeling in your stomach started to build up, and you quickly raised your hand out of his to brush some hair out of your face.
He drew his hand back as well.
"My parents weren't the best out there." you noted looking at your thigh, as slightly tracing the patterns on them.
"I was best friends with Ao'nung you see, so they took me in as their 'own child'," you make quotation marks with your fingers.
"Ao'nung?" Neteyam looked a bit puzzled, "I figured you'd be best friends with Tsireya."
"Well," you snickered, "When I was younger, I had a big reputation for being a troublemaker on the island. I always got into fights and pulled pranks on other Na'vi. That is how I met Ao'nung. He was a sweet innocent soul and I fear I turned him into what he is today."
Neteyam smiled slightly.
"Are you still a trouble maker?" he asked.
"No, I grew up. Now I need to set a good example for Reay and Ao, since I am technically their older sister. Ao'nung will soon be Olo'eyktan so I can't pull stunts like that."
"Why not?"
"Well- Wait, that was more than one question!" you hit his arm playfully.
"Sorry I got carried away!"
---
Hours went by, and still you and Neteyam had more and more things to talk about. You found out a lot of new things about the darker Na'vi, like back in the forest he loved going hunting, he claimed that he was an expert at archery, and promised to teach you. You also learned that Neteyam crafted his own neckpiece. He made it resemble to legendary warriors in his clan. Making and gifting clothing to loved ones is apparently a very big thing back at his home, and is very cherished.
Neteyam also learned a lot of things about you. He found out that you liked Hyacinth flowers because it is considered a symbol of magnificence, peacefulness, and assurance. You mentioned that you felt very at peace when you first saw the flower and ever since loved to stare at them. However they can also symbolize lust or acceptance. That gave you a step for you to accept that your parents were gone and you were now part of Tonowari and Ronal's family.
---
The aura in the cave was very light. You guys shared secrets and stories. You began to trust each other with every word said.
"-and that was how Ao got me in trouble for something I didn't even do!" you ranted as you put your arms up exaggerating your story. Neteyam started laughing.
You smiled, proud that you made him laugh once again.
It was then completely silent for the first time that night. But it was a comfortable silence.
"We should probably head back." Neteyam said as he started to get up.
You nodded your head and did the same.
---
Rising to the surface, the two of you make your way to the shore. The light from the sky was bright enough for the Hyacinth flowers not to glow anymore, but it wasn't early enough for the Metkayia people to be awake.
Neteyam stayed behind just for a moment to pick something up.
As you turn around at the sealine, your feet still in the water, Neteyam walks up to you with his hand behind his back.
You look at his arm and then back at him, smirking and wondering what this boy is hiding.
The darker Na'vi smiled and brought his hand to the front, revealing a hyacinth flower. You gaze at the flower as he brings it closer to your head, and gently puts it behind your ear, while tucking some of your hair away.
"A beautiful flower for a beautiful woman." he whispered. You noticed his accent seeping into his words and only now noticed how much you liked it.
You couldn't hide the big smile that came on your face.
"We have to do this again." you softly said as you moved closer to him.
"We do," he said, doing the same.
"Next time it's a date then?" he muttered as he leaned down, glancing at your lips.
"I might have to think about that." you teasingly whisper as you glance him in the eyes, asking for permission silently.
His gaze on you softened.
You finally closed the space between the both of you, pressing your lips gently on his.
Neteyam brought his left hand up to your face, to cup your cheek and his right rested on your waist, lightly pulling you closer.
Your hands slid from his chest to around his neck, loosely hanging.
The kiss was very gentle.
As you pull back, you lightly chuckle.
"What?" he asked in a low tone.
"I wanted to do that for a while now." you admit as you lean in again, this time kissing him with more passion. Neteyam hummed into the kiss, letting you know that he too, wanted to kiss you for a long time now.
"Your a good kisser." he whispered as he pulled away.
"You are too Netty."
"As much as I want to stay, I think I should head back." he said as he looked towards the village.
You nodded, and unwrapped your hands from his neck and dropped them at your side.
He smiled at you and then quickly gave you a peck on the lips before walking back to the village.
You watch him walk away and then look towards a Hyacinth flower floating peacefully in the water, the things that happened earlier just setting in. You smiled brightly.
