"I'm serious. Go home."
"Look darling, I can't do that, okay?" he said as he focused his blue eyes on me and ran his fingers through his hair. "There's a reason for my hostility towards Gabriel tonight – trust me."
"Why?" I automatically asked.
"I understand that you have reservations towards trusting me – but," he sighed exasperatedly. "Let me prove to you that I have no intentions of hurting you and I just want to make sure you're safe ok?"
"Safe from what?"
"Gabriel has done some stupid things in the past, and he's dangerous. I've seen this with a front row seat. I just don't want you or anybody to fall victim. Not again."
"From what, Ryan?" I pushed.
"I can't. I need you to trust me," he said pleadingly. "I'll stay down here tonight if it makes you feel any better. With Gabriel out in the streets, I can't risk it."
"You're scaring me," I admitted to him. "Has he killed anybody?"
"Not that I know of," he half-smiled at me.
I stood there and didn't really know what to do or what to say. My brothers were going to kill me.
"There's a guest room if you want to be comfortable," I muttered and just gave me another half smile but his eyes showed that he was thankful.
"I'm okay right here darling," he said. "This couch is amazing."
I went upstairs and grabbed a pair of Nate's sweats as well as a couple extra pillows and a comforter.
I have to be hospitable.
"Perfect wife material," he said as I gave him the items.
"Don't push it Casanova – I'll kick you to the curb," I smirked.
"Such a heartbreaker," he said as he clutched at his chest.
"Goodnight Ryan," I said as I walked up the stairs,
"Goodnight my little heartbreaker," he said to me. "I'll see you in my dreams."
~~~
I woke up the next day with the smell of pancakes and chocolate. I smiled as I stretched my arms over my head and did my morning routine. I changed into workout clothes and grabbed my running shoes before I walked down the stairs.
"Damn it Nathan. Those smell so good I actually decided to run," I called out as I neared the kitchen. "What in the world possessed-," I stopped and my mood dropped drastically. One part of me was nervous, the other part of me was annoyed that I forgot that, that was here. Good thing he had a shirt on this time.
"You know it hurts my feelings when you call me somebody else's name darling," he said as he turned to look at me. "But I made pancakes so sit your cute heartbreaking butt on that chair because I'm almost done."
"You cook?"
"A dish or two," he shrugged but the way he moved around in the kitchen and the way he held his utensils told me otherwise. He put a plate in front of me that had a stack of perfectly made pancakes.
"Oreo and chocolate chip," he told me.
"I'm not even going to make a comment. I'm just going to eat," I said as I grabbed my fork.
He stayed standing behind the breakfast bar, looking at me as I ate his delicious pancakes.
I looked up and his eyes met mine. "Good morning," he simply said.
"Thanks. This is actually really good," I admitted.
"Whoa! Was that my first compliment, my little heartbreaker?"
"Don't get used to it, Dolciani," I said and finished my food. I didn't know how much he made but it seemed like he had an unlimited supply of pancakes. I didn't even know that my brothers would have the ingredients to make them.
"I don't think I can even jog anymore," I groaned as I slumped back on my chair and rubbed my belly.
"Food baby," he laughed as he sat next to me.
I was about to smack him but whoever rang the doorbell saved the day.
"Hold on," I said as I got up and sluggishly pulled myself to the door.
"Good morning," my brother enthusiastically said as he walked in. "What's for breakfast? Smells like pancakes!"
My eyes widened. Shit. Tristan. Ryan. Tristan – my brother... That Ryan doesn't know off. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
"Hey Hazelyn, where's your garbage can?" Ryan called out from the kitchen making Tristan's eyes shoot at me.
"Who the fuck is that?" Tristan asked me.
"Hazelyn who was at the door. If it was-," I heard Ryan's voice get closer. Hazelyn think. "Oh Tristan?"
"Ryan?" my brother said surprisingly.
"What are you doing here?" Ryan asked him.
Fuck. Busted.
