Skeleton Key

"I wish we had this key all the time. I don't think I've had this much fun in forever." MK said. The building from behind MK suddenly exploded in flames and MK and Mei fell off the balcony. Y/N was able to catch Mei and MK and struggled to hold them. "Phew, Thanks Y/N." MK said, as Y/N struggled to carry them both.

"Y-Your... Welcome. But please get off.. I can't hold you both forever."

"Oops, sorry." Mei said, as she and MK jumped out of Y/N's arms. Redson emerged from the fire in the building.

"Noodle boy, finally!"

"What are you doing in MK's house!?"

"You better not have touched my stuff!"

"Do you know how long I've been waiting here for you? Your house is... depressing. I almost feel bad taking things from you, buuut I'm going to need that magic key." He used his powers to grab the Skeleton Key. It floated up to him as he caught it. "Yoink! I'll come back for the young one later. So long, noodle boy!" He yelled, before driving off in his vehicle.

"Oh no, the key!" Mei whistled for her bike and it drove behind her. She took Y/N's arm and jumped onto the bike, speeding off without MK.

Redson casually ran over other cars on the road, before turning his head to see Mei and Y/N gaining on him.

"Can't you and your peasant friends just let me plot in peace just one time?!" He yelled, his hair turning into a large flame. Mei laughed as she took of her helmet.

"Red flames are cool! Wanna see green ones?!"

"What?"

Redson and Y/N screamed as they sped up.

"Stop wigging!"

"Does it get boring? Us beating you all the time? You know we're going to get that key back, right?" Redson became even angrier and ejected the top part of his vehicle towards Y/N and Mei. Mei carried Y/N on her back as she cut through the flying pieces. She landed on the road as Redson sped off.

"So long, young one and Dragon Horse Girl! Here's a tip, next time pick one animal and-"

His race car was crushed by MK's giant staff, as he flew out and tumbled down the road. Y/N winced and ran over to him, kneeling down next to him. Redson looked at Y/N in shock as they tried to help him up. A hand grabbed Y/N by the back of their clothes, and MK pulled the child back, the key in his hands. Redson looked at him furiously, how dare the peasant touch Y/N!? As his duty as Y/N's protector, he is going to teach that noodle boy a lesson!?

"So, looks like you reach the end of the line, Redson. What are you even going to do with this anyway?" Mk said.

"Why spoil the surprise?" Everyone looked up to see PIF. "Now hand the key over and quit wasting my time." MK and Mei looked at each other, before MK gave Y/N the key as they launched themselves at PIF. Y/N looked at the key in their hands curiously. Redson then stomped over to them, making them look at Redson nervously.

"Y/N! Don't give him the key!" MK yelled.

"You get away from him you fire bully!" Mei yelled, next to MK.

Redson cleared his throat, getting Y/N's attention. He pat Y/N's head a couple of times before speaking. "Young one, as your protector I want to make sure you are safe, so giving me the key will benefit you greatly." He said, in a calm voice. Y/N looked at him curiously, as they slowly put the key in Redson's hands. "Thank you, young one. I will come back for you soon." He said before standing with his mother. "Thanks for the key, losers! Farewell for now, young one!" The two then disappeared in a wind tornado.

"Did they get away with the key?"

"Yeah. But what I can't figure is...why?"

"A key that can open any door is incredibly dangerous. We have to keep our guard up." Mei finished, then MK looked at Y/N skeptically.

"Wait, Redson said something about being your 'protector,' what was that all about?" He asked. Mei and MK looked at Y/N they sweat nervously.

"Well..."

At the Flaming Foundry, the Demon Bull King opened the tomb with the Skeleton Key. Redson looked inside to see nothing inside but bones.

"Bones? It's just bones!?"

A blue spirit then went up and clung onto his leg and he tried to shake it off. Red Son and Princess Iron Fan see pieces of the tomb floating and the Demon Bull King. DBK maniacal laughed as the blue spirit goes inside his armor.

"Freedom."

MK and Mei looked at Y/N shocked. Tang spit out his noodles and Pigsy dropped his wooden spoon.

"REDSON SAID WHAT!?"

"T-That he declared himself as my protector after the race." Y/N replied nervously.

"I have so many questions."

"WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL US!"

"I didn't think it was that important!" Y/N said, before sighing.

"Well, that explains why he asked you so nicely for the key."

"Yea, sorry about that."

"Don't worry about it." MK put his arm around Y/N's shoulder. "We'll get it back eventually!"
