Staring at the Hyacinth flower, you think back to the painful memory.
".. she's basically a freak"
The words keep replaying in your head.
You heard this conversation a few days before your parents disappeared. You spend the whole morning looking for them, alone. You thought maybe they went to hunt together, plus you didn't want to bother any other Metkayina people.. yet. If they didn't come back before lunch, you would start asking around, to see if anyone knew where they were. You remember then, the chief himself and his mate came to your hut. They asked what's wrong and you said you couldn't find your parents. They then suggested you stay with them until they find them.
Tsireya was happy. She thought it was a big sleepover. Ao'nung was happy too, he didn't have to be with his annoying sister all the time now.
Thinking back to it today, you feel that he so regretted that decision and sense of gratitude, since he has 2 annoying sisters now.
Just like that days went by, then weeks, then a month, and the chief pronounced them dead.
You were sad, you spent almost a week in your old family's hut, cuddling up in the corner. You kept thinking back to the last time you saw them. If you knew that was the last time you saw them, you wouldn't have started the fight.
Your seven year old self can talk a lot of shit. You learned that from your mother.
Unfocusing your gaze from the flower, you raised your hand to your face.
"Since I have 5 fingers," you whisper to yourself "one of my parents weren't Na'vi"
"No she isn't! She looks like you!" Your father yelled.
"I'm guessing mother was an.." you pause for a second, trying to remmember the word your father used once, "Avatar." It felt weird to say it out loud, it was like a bad tasting medicine that you have to swallow in order to feel better.
But you don't feel better.
You groan as you bring your hand down harshly, making the water splash you in the face.
The splash felt kind of like a refreshment, and brought a question to your mind; how did the chief know your parents were missing?
Well, maybe word got around.. but you didn't tell anyone they were missing.
You cocked your head to the side in thought.
Suddenly someone grabbed your shoulders from behind.
You shrieked and you grabbed their hands and pulled them forward while moving to the side at the same time. They fell face first into the water and you went behind them and grabbed their arm into an arm lock.
They yelled and then groaned in pain.
"Rotxo?" You look closely at his face. Once you realize it was him you huff a sigh of relief.
"Don't scare me like that skxawng" you hissed.
"Ow- okay, okay- please let me go!" Rotxo whined and then sighed a sigh of relief as you let go of his arm.
"How did you even know I was here?" you ask looking around as you sit back down, as you were before he scared you.
"You're always here," he replied.
You look at him confused.
"Well- you're either here, or swimming during this time" he said sitting beside you.
Way to close.
"How do you know what i'm doing during this time of day?" you ask as you try to move further from him, without him noticing. Shit. You knew where this was going. And if he doesn't move away, you will beat his ass-
"I- um.. well- you see, you are the daughter of the chief-" he started.
"Adoptive daughter." you correct him. You didn't even know why you said that. Well you did; you wanted to end this conversation.
But you also didn't really consider yourself in their chief's family. You were a part of the family, but you weren't as important. You knew your adoptive parents cared for you, but if you and their other kids were in a tight situation, they would leave you there and save their real kids.
You were glad they accepted you in their home though, and as a sigh of gratefulness, you became who you were today; the responsible, always on task, and trouble free girl. You admitted it, when you were younger, when your birth parents were alive, you were the biggest troublemaker in the village. That's how you and Ao'nung became best friends. But now, with you being, well you, you stopped causing trouble together.
Well, sometimes you did some pranks. You became responsible and followed orders, not old and boring.
Also you aren't stupid and you knew Rotxo liked you. But he just... wasn't it. He was cute, not like cute cute, like adorable cute. Though sometimes he annoys the living shit out of you, it's kind of confusing.
One day he's head over heels for you and the other he just ignores you.
Boys.
"Right.. You are also Ao'nung's sister- I thought it would be good to know your daily schedule so.. Um- you are really pretty, and smart.."
You didn't listen to the rest of his whole stuttering speech as you noticed something behind him. Something or someone in the air. Flying towards the island.
"-would you like to go out with m-"
"Rotxo" you interrupt him, standing up slowly keeping eyes on the multiple flying creatures.
"Um- yes?" he looked up at you.
"What the heck is that?" you ask.
He followed where you were looking.
"I don't know," he answered.
"Well, let's go find out, '' you say, pushing him slightly.
Not going to lie, you were kind of glad that these creatures interrupted this conversation, you weren't in the mood to let this guy down.
