The captain asked Signor Lucas.
"Not as fast as we would like it to be, Captain. Because of the rain, everything is going way slower. Also, the water in the river is rising."
That's the last of what you heard in their conversation before Gonzalez started a conversation with Diego.
"Diego! Can't always see you working like this. You work so rarely that the heavens had broken apart to cool you down from the heat of your sweat."
He started laughing from his own words and smiled as he noticed you working next to Diego.
"Hey, Y/N. Haven't seen you in a while."
You set a heavy rock down and turned his way.
"Sorry Sergeant. Can't talk right now. We have lots of work to do."
You said as you turned back to finish setting out the rest of the rocks.
"Instead of just standing and teeth chattering away, you could help us."
You heard Bernard whisper to himself. Apparently, the Sergeant heard Bernard and asked him again what he said. But Bernard denied saying anything against him.
"I would've gladly stayed behind and helped you, but work is work. Maybe another time, sometime?"
The Sergeant wondered as Captain Jackal turned his way.
"Sergeant Gonzalez!"
The captain demanded.
"Yes Signor!"
Gonzalez automatically answered.
"I want you and your people help Don Lucas with his work."
The Sergeant just stood there for a moment, speechless.
"So? What are you standing there for? Get to work now!"
The captain ordered. Gonzalez automatically replied with a "Yes Signor," and obeyed his command. The captain started curling up his sleeves and kneeling down to help set more rocks in the dam wall. You took out the last of your rocks and picked up your wheelbarrow to head again for the same spot and set in more rocks. Just then, you saw 7 men in blue raincoats, on horses, dash past a poor girl and into the entrance to the dam. You dropped your wheelbarrow and ran towards the red-haired girl who was on the ground. You helped her up and saw her scraped hand and dirty face and decided to offer her some of your tea that you had with you, and you used a clean rag you had with you, to wipe her face and hand. She had some of your tea and smiled gratefully as you heard a splash in the direction the men went. You saw Diego and a guy from earlier, laying on the ground, helpless. You gave the girl the rest of your tea and jogged towards them, trying to see what was happening, a little closer. Once you reached them, you could see their supposed leader, threatening Don Lucas. You wanted to intertwine with their conversation and give that guy a little punch in the stomach, but Captain Jackal got there first and stopped their fighting. When you reached them, the leader got on his horse and all of the men that came with him, left.
*About 2 Hours Later*
About 2 hours later, the rain stopped pouring and the sunshine appeared in the sky. With the help of Captain Jackal, Gonzalez and their people, the process of building the dam was much faster and you finished within a mere 2 hours. Now, your job was to collect the harvest and keep it in the harvest barns until tomorrow when you could sell all the grapes. You took out a big basket and brought it in the fields and started harvesting the grapes with everyone else. You stood between Lalita and Diego while harvesting. You looked at Lalita and Diego while working so that you can keep on getting motivated by their work and keep going. But then you turned to your right, and you didn't see Diego anymore.
