"Marigold, aka Agent Aurum, top clearance authentication." A padlock device on a door beeped as a women in black uniform held a keycard before it. The door swung in after another voice from inside has issued a hasty "Come in." The woman walked in and in another moment the door closed behind her with a dull click. "You called for me?" She had a quizzical expression on her face. Across a table sat another women with black, curly hair and yellow rimmed glasses. "Yes," she replied, "Please, have a seat." She motioned quickly with one hand too a chair; Marigold took a seat and crossed her legs.
"Is there something I can help you with Professor?"
"Please call me Slone, Dr. Slone."
The Agent nodded, "Why exactly did you call for me?" she asked.
"I assume you know who I am?"
"Yes, you're the head of the experimental weapons department."
"Correct. You have come recommended too me, I believe you are eligible for promotion."
Marigold sat there a moment, before replying. "Promotion? I thought that would consist of a nicer desk job. Why come here?"
"I'm sure you are aware that we have some 'gifted' people in our ranks. I am offering you more then just Immortality."
"Me? I'm sure you have the wrong person." Aurum shifted in her seat. She had been with the Envisage for long time.. but to receive something like this? The thought had never occurred too her.
"I'm never wrong." replied Slone. "This is a once in a lifetime offer, one that is certainly meant for no one other than you." There was a pause and silence filled the room, the kind of silence that could be cut with a knife. "Well?..."
"I.. I accept you offer and greatly appreciate it."
"Perfect, I'll be seeing you down in the main laboratory tomorrow. Sector 3-A6, be ready at 8:00. You may be dismissed."
Marigold got up from her seating, "Thank you Dr. Slone, I won't be late." she walked across the room too leave but paused at the metal door as the woman's voice issued behind her again.
"Thank the Order."
The Agent nodded, pushed the metal door open and walked out of the office letting it click dully behind her once again. All these years.. all this time, she had worked case after case. And now she would finally find her true purpose with the Envisage. But something still felt wrong... 'What if it's a mistake?' she thought. 'What if I go there tomorrow and something goes wrong? Has that happened before?'
This wasn't the first time that something here had felt off too her. Things did all the time; she simply ignored those instincts and went on with her job. Some people say it happens after you've been in one place for so long; You can't remember were you're from; not that it matters. You were chosen from the best of the best after all.
She sighs her doubts away and turns into the living quarters, unknowingly for her someone is standing right there. Marigold turns and bumps into them, "Oh!- I'm sorry." she takes a few steps back from who she had just bumped into. They had white floofy hair, pale skin and dark shades with blue rims. "Agent Aurum?" He started, "What are you in such a hurry about."
"Oh, Sig, it's you." She breathed a sigh of relief. "I didn't realize I was walking so quickly; my apologies."
"Well, lucky for you I'm not holding a gun."
"Yes, always the charmer arn't you?"
Sig smirked and crossed his arms, "If it weren't for me you would have been sacked let's say... three times over?"
"And I do appreciate what you do."
"But you didn't answer my question.." His joking demeanor becoming more serious-like. "Where were you?"
"I was in Dr. Slone's office."
"Slone's office? What the hell were you doing there?"
"Well..." Marigold quickly gave him a retelling of their meeting and her newly appointed position. "So you see, I've been promoted; I just had too accept."
"Marigold, as your friend I think you should be just a little skeptical of all this."
She frowned, "You know me, I'm always skeptical."
"More so then usual then, you know how 'funny' some of the gifted people turn out." He had lowered his voice now, clearly this was not a topic to talk lightly about.
"I know that.. but you know me I can take care of myself."
Sig sighed, "I know."
"Then there's nothing to worry about, is there?" She puts on a smile and places a hand on her friend's shoulder. "Don't worry, I'll put a good word in for you; Agent Dawson, world class stalker." Marigold then gave a small laugh.
"Oh, ha ha. Alright then smart-ass." He made a pouty face, "You didn't even bother to mention my style."
"Oh really? I didn't know you had any. Plus, I think that title should go too me." The two of them continued too chat for a few more minutes before Sig said he must take leave. "Just remember M..."He added beforet turning the hall,
"...watch where you run, I would hate for you to lose an eye."
