On the day of Halloween Patricia, Amy, Bethany, Bob, Jim, and Mike met up during school to make plans for Halloween. They all were giving ideas, and they finally agreed to one: to go all around their town and hit every house possible for candy. They knew it was going to take a long time to do that, so Patricia suggested they start going to houses after school to have a better chance of getting to all the houses. Everyone agreed to that because they wanted to collect all the candy they could. After school they got together to plan where they wanted to start. Jim said that they should start at the small, less scary houses, and that when it became dark they should visit all the local spooky haunted houses. The friends all agreed it was a good idea- but little did they know that it's unsafe to go to the haunted houses at night. That night when they all reached their favorite street of big haunted houses, they had a bad feeling that they shouldn't be there- but they still went anyway. Amy went to pull her phone out of her pocket to call her mom because she was too scared to go any further. However, when she went to go get her phone it wasn't where she had left it. She searched everywhere and still couldn't find it, so she asked Bob if she could borrow his phone because she couldn't find her's; he said yes, but when he went to pull his own phone out of his pocket it was also nowhere to be found. That's when everyone went to grab their phones and realized that they were all gone. After a good 15 minutes of searching for their phones they started panicking and then gave up. After a while they decided there was no point in wasting their time and that they should continue moving forward.
Everyone continued, and thought it wasn't that bad but that it was actually fun. Everyone was enjoying their time together as a friend group, and everyone had collected a lot of candy so far. Mike made a bet that whoever collected the most candy would get 20 dollars from him, but Mike said if he won, each of them would owe him three pieces of their candy. Everyone said game on, and when they got to the houses they grabbed huge handfuls of candy. Everyone was collecting a lot of candy so Mike wondered who would win the bet. Later when they gathered together to see who had the most candy so far, they realized someone was walking down the streets towards them. The stranger was coming fast, so everyone just said let's keep going and not worry about it. When they got half way down the road Bethany turned around to see how far they had gotten, and realized that they were all still being followed. Bethany told everyone and they decided to go hide behind a bush to see if they could get a closer look at who was following them. About 5 minutes later the person who was following got close enough to them that the group thought they could possibly identify them. When the stranger finally stepped into the light Jim said he knew who it was- his creepy neighbor, Jeff, who had just gotten out of jail. Everyone was a little freaked out by the fact that he just got out of jail, especially when Jim said that he went to jail for killing a group of kids on Halloween night 2 years ago. Now everyone was really scared and decided that they should run. Everyone got out from behind the bush and started running, but that wasn't a good idea because Jeff started chasing after them and yelling for them to "get back here now!" They were almost done with all the houses but because they were getting chased they had to skip the rest of them- except for one, the very last house. It was supposedly the most haunted, and even though everyone was already scared and knew it wasn't a good idea to go in there, they did anyway; it was their only option and everyone needed a break from running. About a minute later they reached the house and were on the porch catching their breath when Bob looked over to see if they had lost Jeff. They hadn't though, and Jeff was just a little bit aways from the porch. Everyone agreed this was a life or death situation and wanted to live so they needed to go into the haunted house to try and find a way to escape. They didn't want to become Jeff's next victims.
Everyone quickly made it into the house, shut the door, locked it, made sure to put some bookshelves in front of the door, and then ran and hid because they all knew sooner or later, Jeff would get in the house and come looking for them. Everyone found their hiding spots and made sure to be very quiet so they could hear if Jeff had arrived yet. About a good 10 minutes later they heard pounding on the door that they had come in from, Amy accidently let out a tiny squeal, and then BOOM! The front door came flying open and all the bookshelves fell over to the ground, making a loud crash. Patricia was super scared and looked out from her hiding spot. There, standing in the doorway, was Jeff- and he was holding a baseball bat with spikes on it. Everyone came sprinting out of their hiding spots and ran straight down to the basement. As soon as everyone was in there they realized that the door was big and metal and had a huge lock on it so they were sure they were safe from Jeff now. They were correct; they were safe from Jeff but not from the house. Everyone turned around to find out the house had led them to a maze in the basement. Bob turned around to try and open an exit door but it wouldn't budge. It was locked from both sides and their only escape was to go through the maze. They all got together to discuss the groups they were going to break up into: the boys (Mike, Jim, and Bob) were going to go on the left side of the maze, and the girls (Patricia, Amy, and Bethany) were going to go on the right side of the maze. They all split up and made their way into the maze. The boys realized they were doing really well, zooming through the maze like it was nothing, but unfortunately for the girls it wasn't so easy. Patricia, Amy, and Bethany kept on hitting dead ends and getting stuck. About 1 hour later the boys started celebrating- they had made it out of the maze and found the exit! However, the boys quickly realized that the girls still hadn't made it out yet, and they started to worry about them. An hour or so later, the girls still hadn't made it out of the maze. The boys finally decided that it would be a good idea to go back in the maze and look for the girls. Hopefully the boys wouldn't get lost this time either. Mike, Jim, and Bob made their way into the maze and it didn't take them long for them to find the girls, who were sitting down in a corner talking to each other. The boys asked what they were doing and Amy said they'd given up and decided to sit there and wait to be rescued. The boys said okay, we have rescued you now, so let's get up and get out of here before anything else happens. The boys stayed in front of the girls to lead them to the exit, and as soon as they got to the exit they realized it was another big silver door. Everyone was too scared to touch it or even try to open it. About half an hour passed and everyone was tired and just wanted to get home and sleep, so someone finally volunteered to open the door. Mike went up to the door and tried to open it, and the door slowly opened. There was a surprise waiting: as soon as the door opened, it revealed a metal table with each of their phones laid out across it. Above the table was a note that said "Congratulations! You made it out!" In a rush, they all grabbed their phones and ran out the back exit. After a good 20 minutes of running they made it back to town, and because Bethany lived the closest they decided they would head towards her house and call the police. After an hour of running and walking, they finally arrived at Bethany's house. They ran and got her parents and told them what had happened to them, and explained why they were home so late. While Bethany's parents were calling the police the friends all gathered together to see who had won the candy competition. Mike asked everyone how many pieces they had and Patricia had 127, Bethany had 134, Amy had 117, Bob had 156, Jim had 174, and Mike had 109. Mike said, "Well I didn't win but Jim did, so as I promised- you get 20 dollars Jim." While Jim was celebrating, Bethany's parents came in and said that the police were doing an investigation, and they were going to search for Jeff. Following that Bethany told her friends, "I'm tired. I'm going to head to bed and you all should too.'' Everyone left to go home, wondering what would happen the next day. The next day everyone was watching TV and then the news came on. Jeff had been caught by the police and apparently, he was planning on killing them that night - just like he had done to a different group of kids 2 years ago. After that the TVs went back to their original shows. Patricia, Amy, Bethany, Bob, Jim, and Mike called each other and discussed how, if they hadn't gone into the haunted house, they would have been dead for sure. Amy said, "Well at least Jeff is locked up and he can't do anything to us anymore.," and then the call was over. It's true, Jeff can no longer do Mike, Jim, Bob, Patricia, Amy, or Bethany any harm; but he is the reason their fun night turned into a horrid Halloween.
