She felt something, or better yet, someone, hovering her sleeping form.
She shifted slightly, her eyes being invested in a bright light - when had she fallen asleep? What about her work? She jolted upwards at the thought, gasping. Blinking her eyes, she let them adjust to the sun —-
Sun? Like, direct sunlight?
Upon further inspection, she realized she wasn't in the same place she last remembered. It was a beach - the waves slapped against the shore, the sand felt ticklish under her.
She looked down at herself; the outfit seemed to be the same as the one before — black tee, a red jacket, her jeans shorts— what did she have attached to her red belt?
She took it in her hands, examining it more closely. A red gem embedded in a golden circlet; a flame glew within it
«What is this...» she asked herself.
«I don't know how to answer your question» a voice behind her said, making the woman jump.
She turned, meeting eyes with a.. young man? He seemed familiar - then it clicked
«Wait, I swear I've seen you somewhere already..» the girl said, as the other shifted uncomfortably
«I know. We've met before, under.. different circumstances» a small sigh, «I'm.. a cancerous cell. you’ve probably seen me the first time I was defeated, and that’s why you remember me. You're a Red Blood Cell, if I recall correctly?» he finished.
Yes, he was right -- she was an erythrocyte, how could she forget? «I don't think that's important right now» the redhead said, looking to her left «We need to find out about this place we’re in» she said, standing up and lending the Cancer Cell her hand. It wasn't her original place, right? She could help him without getting yelled at!
The Cell seemed to hesitate, as he took the girl's hand and stood up.
«Looks like a dead end..» he observed.
«Let’s try that way!» pointed out the RBC. It didn't seem much of a pain climbing «If we go on an elevated place, we'll have a better view right?»
The pair climbed up, getting a clear view of a beautiful place -- a city stood in the center of a lake; windmills seemed to wave hello! to them from beyond the city walls.The girl looked marveled at the sight before her.
The wind grazed at the duo's skin, they felt.. alive, in the realest sense of the word, for once.
As they reached the city's bridge, they accidentally crashed into a blonde girl. «We're so sorry! I didn't mean to!» The former blood cell apologized, as a white-haired pixie approached them.
«Traveler, are you okay?!» she asked in a high-pitched voice
«Yeah Paimon, I'm good» the mysterious girl replied, getting up and brushing the small traces of dust from her dress.
«What about you two? Paimon has never seen you here!» This “Paimon” said, turning to the pair.
«Oh, uhm— yeah, we're… kind of new here» the redhead said, shifting in her place «I'm... Ayuna, and this is my friend Hana» she quickly invented, taking the cancer cell off guard.
«I see…well,welcome to Mondstadt then!» The pixie said, smiling «We can show you around!»
The trio walked in the street of the city as the Traveler greeted whoever stopped to greet her.
«Do you think she's a celebrity?» 3803 whispered, the cancer cell shrugging in response.«Oh yeah, could you help me find someone?» she then asked, the blonde stopping on her tracks and turning.
«Sure, who is it?» a pause, «Ah wait, don't tell me now, I'll bring you to the Knights of Favonious' headquarters; you guys can file a report there.»
They walked into a big building, it looked like a castle.
The Traveler greeted the guards on the entrance, who referred to her as "Honorary knight".The other two were now curious.
«Well well, if it isn't our dear Honorary Knight, Lumine» a voice said, grabbing everyone's attention.
«Captain Kaeya, you never fail to try and flatter me I see» she said, crossing her arms and giggling.
«It's just how I am, that's all» the blue-haired man said, before turning to the former cells. «And these are?»
«Oh, these are Ayuna and Hana; they're looking for a friend of theirs» Lumine explained.
«I see, follow me and I'll see what I can do to help you three»
The group sat, Ayuna braiding Paimon's hair to the pixie's request for some reason -
«So, can you guys describe what he looks like?» Lumine asked, as Kaeya took a pen in hand.
«Let me try and recall..» the redhead said, letting Paimon free, and crossing her arms - she did really have to recall his looks «Let me see... majority of his clothing was white.. same as his skin and hair» she explained, as the blonde stopped the Cavalry Captain from writing.
«Is..this man's right eye covered?» Lumine asked, her hand still on the blue haired man's.
«Yeah…» The girl looked over to her friend «Why? Is he here?» she asked, anxiously.
«He isn't but.. I know where he is. He's safe» the traveler replied, making the other woman sigh in relief «He's in Liyue, the neighboring nation; I can take you there» she beamed, «It's pretty late, but tomorrow morning we can set off - Paimon, let's go; feel free to follow me guys» Lumine greeted the three and went out;
«Well then, we'll follow the Traveler» Hana said, getting up.
«Alright, take care»
[ ————— ]
«By the way, how'd you get your vision? Paimon is curious!» Paimon said, as the two looked at each other's
«Well you see—» the redhead started, before being cut off.
«Maybe it's better if we tell you privately.»
As the group got outside of Mondstadt's walls, the pixie was now bugging the two with questions. «Alright, I think we can now tell them?» the former red cell said, clasping her hands together and looking over her “friend” who nodded.
«We're not actually from this world, we're originally cells of the human body,» she explained calmly. «I work as a red blood cell, I used to deliver oxygen and nutrients, on the other hand-»
«I was a cancerous cell. I didn't really have a job, unless creating problems is one of them.» 3803 looked worriedly over the other cell, as Lumine folded her arms together
«I see, I'm not from this world either - so no big deal; but, seeing that somewhere, cells are like this..» she trailed off, a smile on her face.
«Paimon is even more curious now! How's the food there?» The pixie said, excitedly as she got grabbed by the Traveler.
«Pardon her, she gets curious about other worlds’ food sometimes» the woman giggled, squishing her companion's cheeks «Since you two are cells, Tadashi is one too?» she asked.
«Huh? Ta-da-shi?» repeated Ayuna, confused
«Your friend, the one in Liyue!»
«Oh! That's what you guys call him?» the girl asked, smiling -- so he changed name too, huh?
«Mhm, that's the name Zhongli called him!» Paimon chirped, getting out of the blonde's grasp.
«So, ready to set off?» asked Lumine, hand on hip
«Let's see what this place offers!» said the redhead, imitating the Traveler.
