AUTHORS NOTES:
I'd like to say before we start I wrote most of this while sleep deprived, and with the flu so apologies if this doesn't make any sense. Also I'm dyslexic so like damn bitch pick a struggle.
Also all trigger warnings will be in the notes for each chapter! Make sure to tell me if I miss anything just in case! ^^
!!!CHAPTER TWS!!!:
Descriptions of burning people's skin (or in this case scales), depictions of abuse, past mentions of abuse, past mentions of child abuse, mentions of neglect, past mentions of child neglect, mentions of physical abuse, burning of the skin (the sun kind), very mild self doubt, and I'm not sure what this would be considered but I feel like this needs its own warning so there's brief mentions of shaving off body parts? Idk how to describe it just like shaving off pieces have somebody's tail like how you cut a strawberry's leaves off in your hands when you don't feel like getting out the cutting board. Yeah this fic is messed up.
I'll leave a * right before these potentially triggering bit and right after they're finished in case you want to skip!
What was he doing here?
He doesn't know, he doesn't remember. He's in the air, he's in the water? Water... Water......
Ah- yess right-! Water is what he needs.
Needs? Wants? Is a human thing.
Is he human? He isn't sure, all he knows is that he's looking for something. Maybe he lost it, or maybe it lost him. Who knows.
...
He would know.
Not him but him.
He was his Superior. Superior? Of what?
He wasn't sure but...
Water.
He needs water.
The sound of splashing could be heard.
And he woke up. Facing... the...
"Sun."
A small voice is heard. The one of a boy. A small boy. A small boy is seen laying on his back. With blonde hair and red(?) eyes. At least he thinks that's what they're called. "Red." He said under his breath. The human language was weird. Much deeper than aquarian.
Aquarian!
Yes! That's what he was called! An Aquarian!
He had almost forgotten his own kind. Suddenly it all came rushing back to him.

Hunter wasn't one to break the rules. All that got him usually was the fire... Oh the fire... He had become very accustomed with it as of late. Now he didn't want to be. *It always hurt, and always burned his scales. The way it practically melted them, leaving a scalding hot purpleish brown tar in it's place.
But that wasn't the worst punishment he'd gotten.
There was that time he was left on land for so long that the sun evaporated the lair of mucus around his body that was his only form of production against the Sun and any harsh chemicals that leaked into the water and how it took weeks to heal.* But that one was deserved-! He had found a human "poke-it wa-tet-ch" or however it was pronounced (humans made up such weird noises with their mouths) and instead of immediately giving it to the emperor he kept it just so he could selfishly use it for his own study.
*Buuuut there was also those times when he was only 3 keliepos old and the emperor started shaving his tail fins.* But that was for a good reason too! He was just trying to protect him from swimming off too far! He wouldn't do anything out of malice, Hunter trusted him and the rest of the Kingdom did too!
He just wanted to protect him. Yeah that's what it was.
So why was he leaving? Why would he leave the safety of the hand built Palace that he called home? Well the answer was quite simple really, he was looking for books.
He had found a couple of human books before and even though he could never read more than a handful of words he still liked looking at the pages. The picture books were always so vibrant and the novels always made him feel smart even if he never understood what was being said. Well he's almost sure that he's picked up a couple more words and sentence structures, so he's probably improving!
As he swam up to the shore he thought about the emperor. What would he say if he found out that his nephew was sneaking out without his permission? He'd surely be punished without hesitation. He shivered at the thought.
But he wouldn't be caught this time, at least not by the emperor...
