Moria lay on her side on the hard stone floor. it was so dark she could barly make out her own fore feet in the gloom.. she tried to move, but her body felt so heave.. her breathing was larboard and she could feel many wounds covering her body. where was she? And how had she gotten in to this state.. and where was the child!! Then the memoirs came flooding back.. painful clear...

ancient trees, so huge and varying in type and shape that they still took her breath away, even after the countless years she had run among them. when she had the time, she loved nothing more than to enjoy there silent majesty, wandering about the things they had seen, they story's they could tell.

Moria love this deep old forest, with its smells and sound so familiar, yet with its shifting paths always new so new. She had never despite of the many dangers and secrets it held, felt a need to fear its deeps, and often took long walk with the beautiful white haired child that was here charge

But today things felt different, the forest seamed more silent and still, Like it was holding its breath.

and It seemed to Moria that the twilight that always surrounded the great forest paths that she now wondered began to grow darker. The child that she was now carrying on her back signalled to her, she had seen something up ahead.

Suddenly there was a movement to her left. Just beyond the light of the path, in the deep dark of the forest Moria saw a pair of eyes watching her, like the red of fresh spilt blood they gleamed with a murderous intent. A malicious snarl was the only warning Moria got before four more creaturessteped slowly onto the path. Their forms hidden in wreaths of shadows that surrounded each one, like clocks of night. All that could be seen were their eyes, blood red like the first and equally full of blood lust. the small girl on her back tightened her grip with fear as Moria turned to meet them.Moria gave her own savage growl of fury and resentment. A great anger burnt inside of her, who dared to attack her? She who was named Sil'Moria, the silver light of the wolf clan, self appointed guardian of the 'broken way' a beloved of all demon kind.

Reaching deep within herself she called to the eternal flames that were her birthright. Calling it into life she let it feed off her anger, letting its power grow and swell in her chest, 'till it filled her whole body. Only then did she let it flow out. It surrounded her making her silver fur dance and ripple like silver fire. The air around her shifted and crackled with its raw energy.

But the shadows, ever to stupid or to powerful to fear morias flames. advanced on her.

Anger flashed through her again as Moria focused on her enemy. Heart intent on destroying them for this foolish transgression. But she never got a chance. As quick as a flash one of the things moved towards her. She readied her self to face it, but at the last second it leaped clear over her head. for a fraction of a second confusion clouded Moria's thoughts as she wondered why had it missed? There was suddenly a piercing scream, as The child was riped from her back.

No! Not the child!

Turning, she spotted the beast, the child still in its grip. As she launched towards it Moria's mind raced, why were they after the girl? Did they know!? no, how could they? That secret has been to well guarded by Moria and her Lord father.

Her huge mouth closed on the shadow and With a seething snarl she ripped it away from the girl. But it was too late. her tiny body lay broken and torn on the hard ground, clothes soaked in the blood that was slowly leaving her body.. she was so still.

No!!

Moria let out a sound of such anguish and hatred, that the remaining shadows took a step back. Her hatred for them so tangible it washed over them in powerful waves.

For Moria loved the human child like her own daughter, and had sworn to protect her from all harm.

Moria looked down at the small broken body and another sigh of disappear left her as she mourned her loss. In that moment the child gave a small unconscious moan, here hand moving slightly. Moria's heart began to beat fast in her chest, the child still lived!. But Moria's happiness was short lived. She knew the girl would not survive for much longer in this condition. It was at this moment, when her back was turned, and focused on the child, that the others chose to attack. One huge creature jumped up, landing on her back, its claws gouging into Moira's flesh before she could tear it off. Leaving long deep wounds on her back. They oozed dark red blood that stained her silver fur as it ran down her back. Shaking of the pulsing firer that was the pain in her back Moria placed herself in the the enemy's path, shielding the child with her own body. Teeth and claws ripped into her from all sides, as Moria did her best to defend herself and the girl from the relentless attacks of the shadow beasts. She desperately thought for a solution. She could no longer call on her inerflames, for fear of killing the girl laying so close to her. Breathless and bleeding from many wounds, Moria called up a shield which surrounded her self and the child. she knew it was just a token gesture, and one she could not hope to sustain for long. She was exhausted, pain wash over her making her shiver with it intensity.

Moria had managed to kill two of the strange shadowy creatures. Their blood now stained her muzzle and had left a foul taste in her mouth. She had torn out the throat of the first attacker, as she pulled it away from the child. The second's head had been crushed in Moria's mighty jaws as she riped it off her back. Their corpses now layed where they had fallen, blood splattered the forest floor with the colours of death. The remaining three were hammering and slashing mersiless at her shield, snarling in rage as they tried to brake through Moria's defences.

Moria closed here eyes for a second and took a deep breath, in an attempted to slow her pounding heart. She had to do something, and soon or both of them would die.

With every blow to her shield she felt her self grow weaker, a little more of her life leaving her. She did no fear death, but she feared braking her oath and loosing the child. With this in mind she directed the last of her strength toward the child, using her life energy to heal the child's damaged body as best as she could. The wounds in the child began to heal them self, as Moria sent the last of her power flowing through her. It was done, the child's body had been made whole again, but she was still too weak, so remaining in a comatose state.

Still the beasts pounded on Moria's shield. Her heart seemed to be beating along to the relentless rhythm of it, like a morbid drummer that marked every second that brought her and the child ever closer to death. For Moria could not hold the shield for much longer, then they would surely both die. So, with one last effort Moria pushed out her senses seeking the seal that she knew must be nearby, for it was the very reason she had been on this particular path today, it was the thing she had been guarding for the last 1000 years, the seal that kept the broken way closed.

She sent out her senses. Desperation and panick where the cold sensation that run up her spine making her now tainted fur stand up on end. What if she could not find it? she searched again focusing, and there hidden in the trunk of a tree only 3 feet to her right she felt it, the seal carved into the hart of the tree, pulsing with its own power.

A calm washed over Moria, and she smiled, finally letting her shield down. She reached out to the seal, and broke it...

There was a sound like the earth cracking, and a flash of blinding white light, then nothing.
