My heart beats strongly in my chest
You see, my emotions, they never rest
Whether I feel happiness, sadness, anger or excitement
My emotions continue flowing, their movements are constant
Each movement is different in its own special way
Granting me the freedoms to say what I need to say
Happiness is like a pulse that travels along my spine
Spreading joy through my body until it reaches my smile
Sadness is sneaky until it isn't and then everything quakes
Pain fills my heart until all it feels are aches
Anger is a far too familiar friend of mine
It courses through my muscles, in with a roar but out with a whine
Excitement feels like new beginnings, a time to start fresh
It sends tingles to my extremities warming up my flesh
Each of these emotions are categorised as primal
None though are as subtle as their very simple titles
Clarity is however, the movement that I seek
It is the emotion I long for when my heart feels its most weak
Unfortunately, clarity can be a quite a shy beast
Well that is to say it is for me at least
So my answer to my heart when I'm feeling overwhelmed
Is to grab pen and paper to write about these feelings in which I've delved
The pen writes and the ink flows out
Until I'm left with little to no doubt
About how I'm feeling in the moment, now
And I can quieten my heart from beating quite so loud
So on days like today, I'm grateful to this paper
Where I can pour out my thoughts until my emotions waiver
Until at last, peace can be felt inside of my heart
And pen and paper can rest until the next paragraph of life starts.
