As the night grew darker, we laughed, sang, ate gooey marshmallows while trying to get them to stay on the cookie, and had a great time.

My legs fell asleep after a while, so I stood up, brushed the sand off my knees, and went over to the waters-edge.

I un-did my combat boots and dipped my toes in the water. I don't know if it was because it was so fucking cold, but the water seemed warmer than the air.

I smiled. I remembered being a kid, and seeing all the adults out in the lake and trying to get out to them. I was so small I couldn't get out past my waist, so Matt would swim back to get me, and he'd carry me out on his back.

"Do you want to come out with us?" my older cousin asked. I shook my head.

"Can I just watch TV?" I asked.

She smiled, and ruffled my hair. "Sure kiddo. If you want to come out, you can play on the beach until someone comes in with you." she said.

I watched cartoons for a while, and then the cabin got too quiet. I got scared, and quickly scurried in my room. I changed into my bathing suit.

I watched down to the beach, and saw everyone out much deeper than I could ever go out. I slowly put one foot in front of the other, and I kept walking towards them.

It was getting dark, and the orange sun glittered across the water. I walked out so far that my hands dipped in the water.

My legs were warm, but I just thought my legs were numb so they were warm. When my hands dipped in the water I realized the water was really warm.

Eventually I had to stop, and I sat down and pouted. I couldn't go any farther. I saw Matt turn around, and he swam back to me.

"Hey kiddo." he said, smiling. I kept pouting. "What's wrong?"

He sat down next to me, the waves pushing us back and forth. "I want to be bigger." I mumbled.

"Why?" he chuckled.

I pointed out to mom, dad, my older cousins and Shai. "Then I can go out with you guys." I said.

Matt chuckled. "You don't have to be bigger to come out with us." he said.

"I don't?" I asked.

"Not when you have a big brother." he said. Matt scooped me up and put my arms around his neck.

"Hold on, okay?" he said. I nodded, and Matt pushed himself out farther then I was ever able to go out.

I cheered, and Matt looked back at me and smiled. "See?"  he said. I smiled.

Matt came over and sat down next to me. "Remember when you were little and you got really upset that you couldn't swim out with us so I'd put you on my shoulders?" he asked.

I smiled. "I was just thinking of that." I laughed.

He smiled. "You were so happy. Everything we went swimming you'd climb on my shoulders so me to take you out." he said.

"You're an awesome big brother Matt." I said. He smiled and ruffled my hair.

"You're a pretty awesome little sister too Lauren." he said.

Josh came over and put his arms around both of us. "What's up?" he asked.

"Talking about when I was a kid and I couldn't go out any deeper than my waist, so Matt would put me on his shoulders for I could go out." I said. He smiled.
