DONELA TULLY knew that as a lady born into one of the most powerful Houses in the Seven Kingdoms she had a duty, to marry into a fine family, be a good and dutiful wife to her future husband and produce his heirs. It was what her mother had done and it was what she was expected to do. Many girls prayed day and night to the Gods that they would bleed soon so that they could be courted by a man and leave behind their family home to start a family of their own, and Donela would be lying if she said she wasn't fond of the idea of having a family except for the part of having to be with a man.
From a young age, Donela knew that her desires were not common. She had prayed and stayed awake for days and nights and starved herself to the point that she could no longer do her everyday activities. Donela had done everything in her power to stop being the way she was but the Gods never responded to her pleas of distress.
As Donela tried to live her life, despite her family urging that it was time for her to wed, the arrival of Princess Rhaenyra to Riverrun to continue her tour of finding a suitable husband made Donela wonder what she had done to anger the Gods. As they decided to curse her to fall in love with someone she could not have.
