The bottle of alcohol is poured down my throat as James cuts down my leg with a piece of glass.  “Drink, you fucker”. He puts down a glass on the table, and fills it from the open bottle next to him. I don’t need any more. “You’re going to have some fun tonight."

James takes a sip out of his own glass, his eyes never leave mine as he watches me try to hold back tears. “And if you make one single sound, I will put this bottle against your head". His words were meant to scare me, but for some reason I can't feel scared at all.

In fact, I was just so tired. It didn't feel like I had enough energy left in me to be scared. All I want now is to sleep for months.

James takes another drink of his beer before putting his gun on the table and walking away. As soon as he's out of sight , I reach behind me and pull off a knife. The metal feels so good pressed into the soft flesh between my thumb and index finger. I let go of the knife after only taking two seconds to look at it, not wanting to risk losing control. I close my eyes and lean back against the wall. Sleep. I would need sleep after all this. And yet, I'm still conscious.

I slowly stand up and walk over to the other side of the room where James is standing. He notices me walking towards him, and I'm sure that even through the darkness, his face shows his annoyance. He doesn't say anything.

before he can register what I'm doing, the knife is plunged into his jugular vein and taken out immediately. I back up, not sure of what's going to happen.

I drop the knife on the floor and watch him collapse to the ground. My legs give out beneath me at first when I realize that this man who made me, hurt me, and killed my brother in the past week -has finally died. I fall back on the ground next to him. I'm crying again, not knowing why or how. Maybe I should stop crying, maybe I deserve a break.

After about 10 minutes, I finally decide that I'm exhausted enough to stop. I stand up and pick up my knife, then take out the gun and put it next to his body. I leave it there. If anyone comes looking for him, they'll find nothing.
