In 2047 there was a huge virus outbreak. Before this we had many minor pandemics but none came close to this. It was called many different things but the scientific name for it was Pnisplulia. This virus was deadly and the survival rate was around .25%. Pnisplulia was a disease that basically dissolved cells, meaning if you got it you would slowly and painfully decompose. This virus spread fast and soon the world population was cut almost in half. This made the demand for a vaccine go way up.
At this point every country was doing everything they could to make a cure. That's were it all went to shit. The high stakes and the insane pressure to create this virus caused a ton of competition between countries. Which is what started the series of chaotic wars. People had gone insane, they felt the world was ending. Everyone had different ways of panicking. Some would commit crimes, you know do all the things you were to scared to do. Some would obsessively stalk up on food. Some would hide. Some would try to run. But you couldn't escape the wars, the chaos, the virus, anything. So whole country's fell. If there's no reason to be careful why try.
The war escalated in 2052, it became nuclear. The United States had enough after a nuclear bomb was dropped on the state of Nevada.

Which is where my story begins. I was born during the pandemic. Which means, I never left the house, I never saw the sun beyond a window, I never talked to anyone other than my mother, I never went to school, my only entertainment was tv.
When I heard about the bomb I was 6 and about a day later there was a announcement from the government. I say by my tv curled up next to my mother as I watch these men in nice suits speak. They talked about needing a new weapon, a way to fight fire with fire. They needed to try something different. That's when a another guy walked onto the screen. He was much younger than the other gentleman. In his left hand he carried a black briefcase. He sat down beside the man who was talking and he put his briefcase on the small table. At this point I'm intrigued so I sat up straight and intensely watched as he turn his briefcase to face the camera and he slowly opened it. Inside the case was six different brightly colored liquid in syringes. There was a shiny red liquid, a bright orange, a golden yellow, a glowing green, a sparkling blue, and a neon purple.
The man started to speak he said that each syringe contained a different way of enhancing humans ordinary abilities. He went on to talk about how he was recruiting 6 young children to take the shot and begin training on how to use their new gift to benefit this country in the war. He said you'd receive a bright red envelope if you were chosen, and that you wouldn't have a choice on rather you want these abilities or not.
Now me being the 6 year old bored girl I was wanted to be chosen so bad. I would imagine a big red envelope flying through the slot on the door. I wanted to fly or move things with my mind, I wanted to be chosen. I hoped everyday for 2 months, 2 weeks, and 4 days my letter would arrive. Of course it never did. But having that hope for those two months helped the days pass easier.
Now one day while watching tv the 6 children who had been chosen popped up. 3 girls and 3 boys. I watched as 6 names flashed across the screen Aron, James, Noah, Charlotte, Hazel, and Kiara. To this day I remember that envy I had watching them stand there and wave.
I watched each kid walk up and chose there color. Aron walked up and confidently chose red the next second a few men grabbed his arms and yanked him away. Next up was Charotte she stood there for a moment shaking before she hesitantly picked yellow she was also instantly taken away. Hazel walked up next and tears rolled down her face as she chose blue after that a guy grabbed her wrist and hauled her away as she sobbed. James was next he quickly chose orange. Kiara ran up nervously selecting green and he was taken away. Now finally Noah was left. There was only one choice, purple. The men came to take Noah to where ever they took the others but he sprinted the other way. The men chased after him. He ran up to the camera and cried for help. Noah screamed and kicked as he was dragged away by the men. After that the tv went black.
I was annoyed with those kids for not being grateful of the powers they were gonna get. How could someone so lucky be so sad?
