"Emmet, what have you done?"

The construction worker hauled himself up, brushing some dust away with shaking hands. When he turned to face the crowd, he found hundreds of faces looking up at him as though he was the world's biggest embarrassment. "Wait- you guys don't think this is all my fault?" Emmet asked somewhat weakly. He could barely even process what had just happened, much less how anyone was putting all the blame on him.

"...Maybe not entirely your fault," Sherry tried, stroking the cat called Laserbeam. He leapt out of her arms when startled by another woman's loud accusatory bark, "It's totally your fault!"

"You got that right, WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes!"

There was a clamor of agreement from the crowd.

Emmet, both hurt and agitated by this, stepped carefully off the raised platform to approach his peers. It wasn't important what they thought of him. They didn't have to see it his way- they just needed to be willing to help. "Listen, everyone. Lucy and the others were kidnapped in some sort of plan to start Armamageddon, and-"

Gandalf slammed the bottom of his staff into the ground, cutting him off before he even really got started. "Armamageddon? Where we're banished for an eternity into the Bin of Storajj?" He snorted and waved his staff dismissively. "That's just a legend."

Emmet felt a rush of desperation. He was beginning to get the dreadful feeling that he wouldn't be able to convince more than a few people. This was the difference between life and what was seemingly death- the very least they could do is take him seriously. "No! It's real! And it's gonna happen to all of us unless we rescue them!" He cried, sounding far more distressed than he would have liked.

"Jinkies, whose gonna lead the mission?" Velma questioned, leaning over the railing a little to check out the possibilities. Several people turned and avoided her gaze. Emmet stepped forward though, and Cleopatra caught it. "You?" She gaped at his idiocy. "You wouldn't even make it past the Stairgate. Let alone survive the Systar System." The snake by her foot hissed at him.

"It's a suicide mission!" Harley Quinn chimed in humorously. No one laughed, but the crowd buzzed with more ridiculing words.

Abraham Lincoln spoke up then, and his voice carried authority that silenced all the others. "Wyldstyle said you're not tough enough to do this." Emmet's heart twisted painfully in his chest. "You haven't changed with the times, you're stuck in the past a quarter score ago."

"Yeah dude, you're a total Hufflepuff."

"That's right! He is!"

"Hufflepuff's not an insult!" Emmet retorted quickly.

"Sounds like something a Hufflepuff would say!" Someone shouted from the back. This started a huge commotion, and Gandalf had to slam his poor staff into the ground several times to get everyone's attention so he could continue.

"Now... you remember what happened with the Justice League. With Batman gone and Marvel not returning our calls, there are no real heroes left. Only original Aquaman and unlicensed knock-off, Larry Poppins." He spun around and directed the crowd's attention to them with his staff. Original Aquaman shook his head in disappointment and tried to shield his face a bit as the room erupted with criticism, worse than before.

"Oh, come on, everyone." Emmet walked directly to the edge of the crowd and got up in some of their faces.

"We've done this before. We all took on Lord Business, and we changed the world. We are all special now. There's nothing we can't do!" He spun around and made a beeline for the door, making sure to take long strides. He dearly hoped that he looked like a capable leader. He threw the lever to the door and it opened at once, splashing evening sunlight into the bunker. The vampire who had been standing by the door hissed and leapt back, along with a few others who had no real reason to. Emmet chose not to apologize as he confidently stepped outside."We need to go up to that alien planet and show those aliens what we're made of!"
