CHAPTER 7. UNSOLVED MYSTERIES
"...THIS IS EDDIE THE BANISHED...."
Nora swears she hears Eddie's voice over Voulez-Vouz playing in her ears. She's not sure if she's dreaming or not, she's only been asleep for maybe an hour. Though Max is safe as long as she plays her favorite song, Nora doesn't feel quite the same. Vecna was after her for different reasons, and she feels that her death will, could, be much more gruesome. Because Vecna has been communicating with her mostly while she sleeps, she feels too vulnerable, even with the music. She only fell asleep because she couldn't keep her eyes open anymore and had told Eddie hours earlier that she was going to sleep.
"You there?"
Nora tries to lift her head when she hears Eddie's voice again, but it feels like a thousand pounds. Her head rolls to her other shoulder, resting on the arm of the couch that Robin is sleeping on. It's an uncomfortable position, and she even prefers the boat to this, but it was this or the wood chair in the corner of the room.
"Hotter Harrington?"
Nora makes a sound of acknowledgement, but her eyes remain closed. She slumps further into the furniture as the last verse of the song plays and the tape runs out.
"Henderson?"
She jerks awake with a snort when someone trips over her feet. She rubs her eyes as she hears Nancy greet Eddie over the walkie talkie.
"Wheeler?" Eddie questions. "Hey. Um, I'm gonna need a food delivery, like, really soon, unless you want me going out into the world."
"No. No. no. no. Don't do that." Nancy shakes her head. "Stay where you are, and we'll be there as soon as we can."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Listen, um... can you pick me up a six-pack? I know, it's stupid as shit, drinking right now, but a cold beer would really calm my jangled nerves."
Nancy lets out a long sigh before replying. "I'll see what I can do."
"Cool." Nora can basically hear the smile in his voice. "Is my princess awake yet?"
Nancy looks at Nora, who holds her hand out for the walkie talkie and Nancy hands it to her while her other one holds the rewind button on her Walkman. "Hey, Eddie."
"Hey, sweetheart." Eddie greets, his is much softer than it was with Nancy. "You okay? I take it everyone is alive and well?"
"Yeah. Max and I are —" She glances toward the couch that the redhead is sleeping on, only to find it empty. "Uh... I'll be back later. Love you. Gotta go. Bye." She rushes out before taking her finger off the button and tossing the walkie talkie aside. If Nancy didn't catch it, it might have broke after hitting the corner of the coffee table.
Nora gets up and goes over to the last person on Max watch. "Dustin!" She shakes his shoulders. "Wake up."
Dustin groans and turns his head before it falls back into the TV, waking him up. "What?"
