a lucky escape

The snow leaves a painful tingling sensation underneath my nearly bare feet. I'm running. Running away from everyone and everything that has ever caused me pain.

My pace slows, no matter how much I keep pushing myself to continue going faster. Escaping Snezhnaya is near impossible, especially so when I'm sought after by the Fatui. I know for sure that the 11th harbinger Tartaglia is on my back, imagine how many others are actively trying to hunt me down.

"THERE SHE IS, THE RUNAWAY IS UP AHEAD!"

My pace immediately speeds up. I'm determined to leave Snezhnaya behind with my intact body and my life.

Warmth. A warmth envelops my wrist, gripping it tightly.

"Shit,"

I try to wriggle free of my pursuer's grip but to no avail.

"Let me go!" I shout, practically yanking my arm back towards me.

"Not so fast, girlie." A familiar voice says from behind.

"Tartaglia," I spit out, my words practically dripping with poison. "What do you want from me, huh?"

"Hm. Let's see. How about you be a good 'little sister' and return to where you belong, to me; and the rest of your 'family'."

"I will leave Snezhnaya. There's no use in trying this."

"Ohoho, and what makes you think that you're capable of executing your little plan?"

"Even if you deem me as incapable; I will escape."

A short silence fills the air between us before I speak again.

"Even if this godforsaken cage of ice traps me in the hell I used to call my homeland; I will escape. And there is absolutely nothing you can do about it."

"So what's the first step?"

"Kicking your groin to break free and continue my escape."

"Wait, what?"

He asked that question a little too late. I sent my leg hurling towards his crotch. While he was curling up in pain, I made my swift escape. Dodging every attack until a hand gives me a hard blow to the neck. As my consciousness fades, all I see is a strong gust of wind creating a flurry of snow near the fatui agents accompanying Tartaglia as the wind sends me flying into a bush.

When I wake up, the sky isn't a light grey and no clouds are in sight.

Clarinet confusion with a touch of a bluebell muddle, stars messily strewn across it. The sight hangs over my head like some misshapen chandelier, mocking me from the heavens, from whence it came.

I feel something hanging on to the chains draped over my leggings' right thigh. I sit up and put my right leg in a position where I can see what the thing on my chain was.

There, lying comfortably on my thigh was a mint green glass orb encased in a metal shape obtainable only in Snezhnaya.

A Snezhnayan Anemo vision.

"How can this be? How come I did something that impressed Barbatos himself?"

I hold my vision gingerly, half in awe and half in disbelief of the sight.

"I promise to make good use of this."
